I had the pleasure of playing CBGB'S years ago...Not as disgusting in person as its reputation...
The odd thing was that I was in a duo with me singing and my buddy playing live keys and everything else prerecorded on a computer (not a laptop mind you!) The music was kind of like a very electronic David Bowie. (Only I don't sing as well!)
After our set we were approached by a couple from Germany who wanted us to perform one more time so they could film it for German TV! But my buddy (who was a great guy but did everything in his power to squash success) didn't want to play anymore and the club was closing for the night and refused to let us play one more song.
When we called to get another gig (given our good reception...the TV thing and the crowd danced all night) we were told that we were "too weird". Too weird for CBGB"S!
