Okay, so I'm taking my CPT to play for church service tomorrow. I've had a chance to compare my other basses to it and I'm really liking the results I hear. Tomorrow could be a fork in the road decision day for me!

My CP Thornton is all that and some more. Finger style, she just sits smoothly along the bottom. Slap, she comes alive with tons of energy and just rules!! So inspiring, too!! I didn't mean to take a solo, but I couldn't help it. It's like 'it' wanted to take the solo and I was there to just hold it.
You know, I think there is something in the torrefied wood that seeps in through your fingers and stimulates your creative spirit and sends them soaring!!!

Nightman, I'm so happy you love your bass. The torrefaction process cooks the sugars out of the wood which not only makes the wood more stable but also makes it more responsive. It's like hearing an acoustic or archtop guitar that was just built compared to what it sounds like many years down the road, it's more alive and open. I have said many times to my clients that a new guitar hasn't woken up yet, it's like one day the wood wakes up and realizes it isn't a tree anymore but a musical instrument and when that happens the guitar opens up and is more responsive and lively. I read an article once that when Paco de Lucia soloed he would close his eyes and think of himself as a bird in flight sometimes flapping his wings and other times soaring on the wind currents. It warms my heart to hear you say your bass makes you want to soar.
Actually, I have a pedal board with an Eden WTDI, Digitech Bass Multi Chorus, MXR Bass Envelope filter and a TC Electronic Polytune Tuner. I've played my CP Thornton through the chain, but if I recall correctly, I didn't use the chorus or needed the Eden that night.

My pedal board is pretty simple, the TC Blacksmith is a three channel amp so I have a channel selector on my pedal board
then an Aguilar Tone Hammer & a Catalinbread SFT which are used just to shape my tone the way I want and an Aguilar Octamizer and an MXR Fuzz. I hardly ever use the fuzz or the octamizer for that matter. I have the three channels set up so channel 1 is my slap tone, channel 2 is my finger tone, I dialed it in to have a Jaco tone when using the bridge pickup and a P tone when using the neck pickup, channel 3 is dialed in to have a slightly overdriven SVT tone.

Both of my CPThornton basses have made me such a better player. The harmonics, the coloration you can get. To bend
I run into an optical compressor then out to an EBS PreAmp (A, B, and A+B channel), then this has an effects loop with adjustable level. I like to keep mostly the original tone with an effected tone on top. I will use light reverb, delay, a slow rich chorus, and rarely an EBS Wah. I have a light cabinet (Epifani 112 + small horn~26lbs), but the head is still heavy (Epifani performance 400).Hi, this is just a curiosity question.
What pedals if any do you use with your rigs?
With a quality bass like we discuss here I am curious as to how you guys have your rigs setup.
I like the light cabinet but want a smaller/lighter head, preferably one with a tube pre-amp! Is anyone using CPT through an all-tube head??

I brought them to Chuck's shop when I picked up my bass. Chuck helped me dial things in with the amp as I never played bass before. Not being in a band I don't need much in regard to bass gear.

@BlueLou, your rig is very similar to my primary rig, except I'm using an Avatar 210 cab. It has a great sound when slapping, but to my ears my the 210 doesn't permit the bass to speak in a passive low range in finger style like I think it can. I have an Avatar 212 that I'm going to use with it next to see if it's the cab (or brand) or my EQs. Can you share what Chuck set your Magellan settings to?
I'm going to have to put a TC Blacksmith on my wish list along with another CP Thornton bass!!
I have a '79 Fender Bassman Ten. That is all lol! I have a Line 6 POD that has a few bass effects in case I want a Motörhead overdriven effect but rarely use it. When the neighbors are home I use my fender rumble amp. I'm still in the process of learning so I plug my iPad into the auxiliary, plug my headphones in and jam to my favorite songs. My teacher is me working on some old Grateful Dead tunes now practicing fills and riffs versus the standard roots and fives.
I will take a photo shortly of the settings. The difficult part is the Magellan saves the settings of one channel in memory so the physical controls won't reflect the settings of one of the channels visually and I don't remember them, being I have oldtimers disease drool

My other basses are 35' and I don't miss that it all playing the CP. In fact with my tendentious issues the CP is a welcome addition with no sacrifice in tone.In the wannabe stage at this point til I unload some other lesser basses. Soon though VERY soon. I have been up to Chucks shop though and can say that he is a great guy and probably one of the best builders out there (I have had all the boutique stuff and Chuck is as good and more often better). After seeing several basses in the build process its obvious Chuck is a meticulous perfectionist. I really like tight strings and usually go with a 35 inch scale but he seems to have the secret magic formula for 34's, perfect tension. There are a few guys with CPT basses that show up at a blues jam I host and they really have an impressive and versatile tone (through my rigthat sits very well in the mix. Now if I can only talk him into a PJ as I gather my pennies
What!!! My CP Thornton gets the nod two Sundays in a row for service music, and it was the bass of choice for rehearsal this week!!! No doubt, I'm saving my coins for another CP Thornton bass.
