I think you are missing the point.

The Poster could be advertising for a Christian Rock or a Drag Show cabaret band. If the leader of that band believes that having a certain mind set is important for the functioning/ longevity/ direction of a group then it can be important to get that established on the front end.

Do you really want a bass player that is a monster player doing a 4 hour set at a drag show if they have a problem with gay people? Is it likely to cause issues at some point? When they go for a beer between sets or after their set is ended and might interact with the patrons? But they are a great player that knows the material, what difference does their thought process make?

Yeah I guess I am missing the point. So I guess in your example a liberal bass player in their country band is akin to a homophobe in a drag club? I think you confused me even more!

The point is. The leader of that group believes that in order for that group to function well all of the people need to be of a similar mind set.

And that while he might be country band, the examples I gave (Christian rock or Drag cabaret) try to illustrate that a potential member's views/ outlook can have an impact on the on the band (internally and externally).

As most of the members of that band might tend to share a similar outlook a differing point of view might have negative consequences.

I would expect the reason the CL poster put this is probably due to previous issues. And disasters in the past that they would really prefer to avoid.

Ok, I get it. That is reasonable. Seems pretty myopic and juvenile, but if they don't see it that way AND it's what they want, more power to them!

Stay far away from any band looking for a player that feels compelled to mention politics for no reason whatsoever...something the ex-bassist clearly realized at some point as well
Not so fast there, scooter. ;) Politics etc. are important to a LOT of people such as the people in that band. What's wrong with playing, socializing, etc. with people who share ideals/beliefs?

I've played in a lot of country bands over the years, everything from hillbilly to rockabilly and i've never been hired for my politics. As far as that goes i've never been asked (in a musical setting) about my politics but once and that was by a BL putting together a band specifically to play rallies for a guy running for governor, and the subject came up in the audition by way of "keep your politics to yourself and play". Other than that it's always been about what i could do with the bass and would i show up on time prepared to play. I've also been hired based on someone i knew but it was always a fellow musicial type passing my number and a good reference to someone looking for a bass player.

I've seen the tribal approach to band building but mostly in P&W, and seriously deep metal bands where ads will stress that only true believers need apply, but this is the first ad i've ever seen where a pro player would also need to be a specific age as well as politically and philosophically aligned with the BL in order to land a country music job. I'm surprised there was no stipulation regards dress or overall "look" as well, but i guess that's so they won't scare off any prospects.

On a strictly personal note, i've played with all kinds of folks from all over the political and philosophical map and i've always focused on being a good bandmate who was there to do the best i could to put out a great musical product, but if some aligator mouthed bigot, racist, or whatever started in, i'd join right in and give them a taste of what it feels like to have some crass, vulgar A-hole denigrating them and their general outlook on life to their face rather than behind their back. So far i've been lucky and haven't started any fights or been fired for it, but as we continue to dig deeper into a tribal mentality where blind loyalty to a particular worldview dictates all our other choices, i'm sure that day is coming.
Your points are well made. If only more people here could reason rather than simply react.

I'm sure that the band is just as concerned about being rejected, particularly down the road with time invested, as they are interested in rejecting people. I'm guessing that it's just as likely that their previous bass player bitched them out and left as it is that they fired him. As we see here, there is a lot of marginalizing and even hate of anything that isn't towing an absolute, certain line.

The "snowflake" thing might be a bit of a dog whistle, meaning that if you know what the guy means, you know what the guy means, if you know what I mean.

The use of "snowflake" and "up Rachel Maddow's ass" together establishes the author as being pretty far right (not sure I can get to "racist"), and he is clear that he only wants to work with people of similar mindset. In that sense the ad is effective because the "wrong" people will probably run away.

It tends to keep one from being confronted with ideas that might challenge their own? If you are into politics and not into political discourse, we have a big problemo. I'd call that a problemo. I might call that the biggest problemo our country is dealing with right now.

Going through endless auditions to weed out people is EXTREMELY tedious. And can just lead to people giving up/ quitting. To have 3-4 or whatever make the time, make the drive, set up, etc. to have a person audition that just won't work is a killer. You KNOW pretty much within the first 5 minutes if the person can play. Trying to get rid of them after that is ALWAYS awkward and uncomfortable. And pretty much kills the mood of the practice afterwards. That can lead to the people all feeling like that audition practice was a waste of time and possibly that band is a waste of time.

And I am going to bow out of this one before I steer it directly into the closed for further discussion ditch, but not before posting this fantastic picture again.
