CWB 14: Whiskey and Beer

Hey my beautiful CWB'rs how's is it going. So last year I was in a six piece band (drum, bass, dual guitar, keyboard, singer) with a female singer who has quite an amazing voice. The only problem we were having is we were playing all o the cliched songs, (sweet child o' mine, hotel california, you shook me all night long, a few newer "classics") and while the crowd loved it we felt that it didn't always really work with her singing them, it sounded good but didn't really suit.

So this year it looks like a reunion may be written in the stars, and since I some of our more famous members (you ladies know who you are ;). ) are in all female bands, I figured I'd ask y'all for a list of your absolute favorite songs for female vocals :) any genre really as we are going to be changing it all up This go around anyways.

Our band has a female lead singer. Here's a link to our song list for whatever ideas it might provide:

Good enough segue into reporting that, at our big family gathering in honor of my mom yesterday, my contribution was singing Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You," accompanying self on guitar and with harp in holder (in the simple Dolly style, nothing like Whitney Houston's version). It was pretty ambitious for me from a singing viewpoint but it went over well (i.e., not a dry eye in the house). The lyrics are actually right on point if you look at it from the viewpoint of my mom singing it to us, rather than me to her. (Which I explained so that it didn't seem like an odd choice.)

Happened to be the song I felt like singing for the occasion, so I went for it.

My first question would be - what's your singer's vocal range? Is she a soprano, a mezzo, or an alto?

Chuck, if it's a song that you felt right with, then it was the right song. I've always loved that song, BTW. It's ambitious to play and sing - and you did TWO instruments and sang! Good for you!!!
