CWB 14: Whiskey and Beer

It was AWESOME! We've got 3 songs pretty darned tight for only playing twice together. We've got 10 more that we're bouncing around and figuring out what order to put them in.
No jam next weekend (it's Easter), but we're already planned for the next Sunday. FM is going with me, too. I think this just might take off and get somewhere. Yay.
Edit - And yes. I will allow FM to take video. But I don't know if we're going to post anything or not.
Okay - that helps immensely. She should be able to sing my range pretty comfortably.
Most Journey is out unless she has a strong head voice that doesn't get pitchy.

No practice next Sunday for me either. Today's went well. We officially have a second guitarist. We sound good, and I'm not horrible on the background vocals that I do.
Awesome! I'm not ready to play and sing consciously yet. I tried today and lost my place badly. Apparently, when I don't think about it, I do pretty good with it - I just never know I'm doing it until it's over. LOL.

The first song was perfect, first take. We did it a second time, just because and it was a good take as well. I played a second part on a bongo cajon that comes in and out a couple of times. I got it too on one take.
The second song was positively gruelling, I played an egg shaker through the whole song, 8th notes. We'll be adding a cajon part later. We all have minor flubs again, and again, etc... I don't know how many takes, it was a ton. Finally, we made it all the way through with a great take and fell apart at the end. Groan. It start out with a finger picking part, and ends with it as well. After having done it a billion times, Paul just didn't have another take on the intro in him. (which is understandable...) We talked about doing the last verse and chorus again and grafting them together. But we purposely were not using a click. (It just didn't seem like we should since we are playing roots music.) We could graft it together if we hit the same tempo exactly... I had a great idea. (If I do say so myself...) We listened to the playback and I played along. They stopped the playback, I continued playing at the same tempo. They hit record and fell in and continued the song at the last verse and chorus. It sounded great. They still have to patch it together, but I feel confident that this will work.
The third song was actually the toughest technically, it had a lot going on. We absolutely knocked it out of the ballpark on the first take. It was the best take of the day, no doubt about it. I play conga on it, and had a blast ripping off odd meter time.
All and all a kick butt day.
We are going to add backround vocals and additional percussion, hopefully this week.

Okay - back from tonight's round of painting. This weekend was a big work weekend even with a loss of 6 hours.
If I can get the dark walls done on Monday, then I should be able to finish the baseboards and mouldings on Tuesday. Then - lessons Wednesday and Thursday - and I'll do another bleach of the concrete slab on Thursday night and put a fan on it with a couple of tubs of DampRid until Saturday morning. Saturday launches the flooring event and if all goes well, that will be done in one day. Then all that's left is to put up a new window treatment and touch up any dings in the paint that happen while the flooring goes down. It should all be done by the end of Easter Sunday and have the furniture and instruments moved in. I can't wait!!!!!!
- Carpet tack strip all pulled out
- All the nail holes and dings and dents patched in the drywall
- Walls all washed down and prepped for painting
- Sanding done on the wall patches
- Concrete slab scrubbed and bleached
- Ceiling painted
- The two pale walls painted with two coats and looking good
- Everything prepped for doing the dark walls on Monday night after work
