CWB 14: Whiskey and Beer

I may have to post some pics of my '57 Ludwig kit, new snare, but original one is being used as a sort of "rack tom" for the time being. Still in great condition, original '50's Zildjian cymbals, new heads on all but bass and floor tom, don't know when they were put on, but the best part? I know it's all original and not a fake because my grandfather is the original owner. :cool:

The heads haven't been changed since the 80's I believe, and the Zildjians are from around the same period, maybe slightly newer. I purchased the kit (for the studio) for practically nothing from a drummer who was having financial troubles. I love them, so boomy. I was going to sell it to fund my hike, but they're too unique. They're going to a good friend for safekeeping.

Well, I could tell you...but you probably wouldn't want to use my methods. :D

Actually, we've had that stashed in various places for about six years. Remember how GC used to do all those $99 specials? It was usually a cheap bass or guitar, but one time they did a drum set. We were going to buy it, but according to a friend who worked at GC at the time, the set wasn't even worth the $99 so we scratched the idea. The morning that sale started the friend called and said that his GC hadn't gotten any of the $99 sets, so they were substituting this one, but only until they sold two sets. So, I hurried over and bought a set. They've been collecting dust ever since...until now. :p :hyper:

That's awesome. I'd love to get a kit, but I'm thinking that an electronic kit would work better due to space constraints.

I've got drum kits in both practice spaces (Hudson Valley and Brooklyn), but the one upstate isn't mine, it belongs to the VAs' drummer. He's about 6'4" and likes having a lot of drums, so his kit takes up more room than any other drummer I've ever played with.

The one in Brooklyn belongs to me, so that there are drums on hand mainly for jazz. A professional drummer who is a close friend had a student selling them, so I bought them. They're like this, but with only one tom rather than three. They're not bad, and it's a smaller size bass drum which is great for the space.

Drums and piano were actually my first instruments, and I can play them a little in a dire emergency.

Here are a couple of my kits...

1973 Slingerlands 13", 16", 18", and 24" bass. I usually use one of my matching early 1960's Slingerland snares with it.

That is a sentimental favorite... After I had a really bad motorcylce accident in 1991 I had to work hard to be able to play again. I bought that kit for myself in 1992 as a gift to myself for making it back. I don't know how many gigs I did with it over the years, but I know that it has to be in the hundreds.
