Couple of thoughts now that I'm home from the gig tonight.

First off, PA we didn't do Rock This Town after all but did do Stray Cat Strut. Our guitar player really nails this tune every time, just love the way it sounds.

Tonights gig was a dinner/dance thing at our local legion. I don't normally go to any dinners when the band is playing, just seems to make the night extra long. However my mum wanted to go as she has been actively involved in the Legion for many years.

She's 89 now and I realized I won't have many more opportunities to spend a night out with her at a function like this. Its only since she moved to my town 5 years ago that she's had an opportunity to see me play. She said when they bought me my first guitar for Christmas in 1964 they hoped it wasn't just a passing fad teenagers go through. She never dreamed I would still be playing music 47 years later and getting paid to do it.

All in all it wound being a pretty special evening, one I know I'll back on and be glad I spent this night with her.

well, long night, but I survived...LOL
I cut one drunk off. he and his friend complained to the bar owner. Their contention ws that the guy was not drunk and staggering, he was just a really bad dancer. The bar owner told them that his policy was to back me, and that the drunk had to convince me he was sober enough to continue drinking. (Bobby knows that I will not back up under pressure...it is my job to be the bad guy, and I can do it when the need arises)..So he and his friend proceeded to launch into a cussing fit of insults to tell me how stupid I was... I stood there silently smiling. When they wound down, I calmly asked them if they really thought they could insult me into agreement with their position... That took them both by surprise. When they started in again, I just looked at the drunk and said "You are not going to win, with this tactic.. rethink this before speaking again." His wife finally shut him up...
I had two guys trying to start something after the bar was closed. Apparently their mom left with someone else. They did not know where she went, and wanted someone to blame, or fight with. One of them really wanted to swing at me, but he just couldn't build up the nerve... I am really glad he didn't I did not want knots on my head tonight. I would have had to run in, and hide under the pool table, and that would have been embarrassing

That is very cool, I am officially jealous.

I started screwing around with bass and drums thanks to a neighbor when I was ten years old. That was 1969. I got serious and ended up having my first gig at age 16, six months after my mother passed away. My father passed away 3 1/2 years later when I was 20. He did get to see me play a lot of shows in that time.

I miss them both all of these years later and think of them a lot. It's wonderful that you've gotten to share so many years with her. It's very cool.

Glad to hear that you didn't have to fight your way into the new year.

I love you man, any time any TIME bro.

I don't know if you saw that Mr Fantasy link. Listen to it, it's just raw energy. I looked the bassist back up, Jef fKahn. Had a great career in many ways, self destructive in so many others.

His bass lines on that particular song are a textbook example of the use of approach notes.

His history of drug use, and his bad influence on Jerry Garcia, were things I never knew about. Jeff died from a heroin OD.

Too bad, as he was a talented artist.

I also want to mention as the New Year starts that I still miss my college roommate and friend,
H. Dwight Wesley, MD Col USAF, whom I lost in 1985 to depression and suicide. He brought me back to music after I had given it up and gave me a gift that has warmed and sustained me for a lifetime through the good and the bad. I miss you every day, and most of that music in my head is for you. I still have the tapes of the jams from the early 70's at Pembroke Field House in Providence and that's why I still keep a working reel to reel. So they will never die. You may be dead, but your music lives on and 27 years after, I can still play the old songs. Rest in peace my old friend. My journey will be over soon enough.

Well, New Years is a time of reflection and hope.
I hope this year will be better in many ways.

I hope your new year brings happiness and freedom.
Freedom from worry and pain, freedom to express and be yourself, freedom to hear the sounds, freedom to make some music of your own.

Here's to friends old and new... I'm toasting you all with my morning coffee. (I know it's the afternoon, late start.)

this sucks...time to put this thing away, and do the work thing...

2011 was great. hope 2012 is better for everyone... and I hope all of you wait until after the ball drops to pass out

remember...be careful who you kiss. you might be stuck with them

I've slept 4 hours since Friday. Picked the lady up at 3AM Saturday morning because she had a small problem where she was staying. Just dropped her off at her sister's. We had our first official kiss at midnight, and it kept going until 6AM... Here's a pic of us together. I'm so head over heels its almost sickening. LOL

Congrats my friend!

You both look very happy... and a bit tired. lol

She is very pretty by the way.

Yeah, the whole fighting think was OK when I was 25... It hurts a little more now.

the fortunate part of that is that I have done this for so many years that a large percentage of the bar going crowd know me. Usually it is only the drunk kids who think they are 10 feet tall and bulletproof, who will give me any real trouble. The rest I can talk out of any real trouble

I've heard that the breathable ball gags (like that one) are the way to go.

Actually, I'm lying. I heard "hmmmph!" "Mmmmm!" and "Rmmmmpf" most of the time.

:p Actually this one is designed to make your drool come out the sides of your mouth - thus increasing your feelings of helplessness - A good thing under the right circumstances.

Thanks! I don't feel the same. Gave up the "rock and roll all night and party every day" thing for the most part after meeting T2H in Philly then Kristin a few weeks later. Something in my head about a will to enjoy life to its fullest through clear glasses. My body feels better now that a vast majority of the "substances" are out of it. Still indulge every now and then, but it's progress. Also got rid of the break-up beard. lol

It's funny, we always read/see women getting advice along the lines of "you'll never change him, or he'll never change..." but the truth is, the "right" woman/women always inspire and motivate us to better ourselves...and the "right" one can do that by just "being" and never even trying to get us to change. IME..of course.

Yup. I'm free to do whatever I want, however I want and anyone I want, as long as I don't come around her kids messed up on ANYTHING, even alcohol. That's the only rule. I know better than that, so its not really a rule. It's more common sense than anything. Quit smoking cigs at midnight. Mad cravings. Got tired of my wallet being drained $7.48 a day with tax when I can use it to drive back and forth to MD or DE. Although they ARE $4.03 without tax in DE and I'm there enough, but I'd still rather save it. :)
