The HXStomp is working out good. I do use it as mini HXFX most the time, but the smaller footprint is ideal. The Helix core being universal across all Helix platforms allows you take advantage of the bigger Helix options. So, its great for studio use. Plus, the Stomp can be used as an interface, which is a bonus... But yeah, the new setup allowed me to downsize. The board is just a Pedaltrain Classic 24"x 12.5.

awesome. Those are the main reasons I want to get a stomp. Plus the amp n cab sims are still a huge selling point for me. The guitar player who’s home studio we use has nice plug ins. But I want an already made tone ready to go in a small pkg once I enter the room. I think the stomp is going to get me there.

Thanks. I'd thought posting the full board might've been excessive, but its great now because with the MBD2's size I can use 1 board to pretty much cover whatever project I'm working with.

The ABC is one of the best, imo. Its powerful. I'm basically using it as an amp right now. I can bypass my amp's preamp or a back line with it. It almost has a Sunn quality to it but the class A circuitry is open and musical. Whatever I slam into it breakups and grinds nicely. On its own its a beast. The LOUD gets gnarly and competes with my fuzzes including the Witchfinder hyper fuzz. With the tone shaping it offers a lot of range. I recommended it

I really want to get a bass channel too. I would’ve snagged one a month ago if they were available at the time.

I'm sure it's not but every video I've seen it seems it's always much more distortion than I prefer, even in the 2 seconds the demo person from each video sets the gain at a low setting. The pedal always sounds too metal for me. I'd love to try it but I'm not willing to risk $230 to see if can do what I need.

That JM demo is not reflective of all the pedal can do.

I see what you're saying. Even at low gain settings, the pedal is heavy and thick sounding. Not always metal, but definitely heavy.

I use it as a light distortion and it’s very good and my favorite at that. I agree on most videos are generally done for heavy distortion or od.

100% agree on this. Greg urged me to try the MBD and though I was doubtful based on the same concerns as you, @WorktheWood , I was extremely pleasantly surprised at how well it worked for me. Thanks, @gregmon79 !

I always thought that’s just what it was meant to do *shrug* I mean if I want light overdrive that’s what a 100 other pedals are for... don’t have the funds for an mbd2 but my mbd1 isn’t going anywhere. Use it by itself for thick and heavy “clear grind” or put in the cog mini 66 before it for crunch.. definitely my top 3 desert island pedals!

The MBD excels in low/light gain OD. It’s amazing in that role. And imo, $230 is a bargain considering what it is, where it comes from and who builds them. It’s a game changer to me. I went through countless OD’s over the years. Since getting the MBD a couple years back, my OD GAS has been completely non existent.

Great! Try these settings to start with. Even though mine is an MBD-1, it should be the same. Both switches on the MBD-2 would be down/off. You can also try starting with Depth completely off.

I freakin hate GAS. I have an MBD-1, (don’t really care about the bigger footprint), I have my dirt needs covered about 20 times over. I have my dirt wants covered about 5 times over. Why is it such a powerful struggle to not buy a hammered Blue on sale? I guess I should be thankful I don’t have the same struggles with Heroin or blackjack.

While I have no doubt that setting sounds awesome, I am repeatedly drawn to the opposite. I love the clean all the way off and the depth north of 2 o’clock. The depth brings such a lovely low end to the distortion I don’t feel the need for the clean.

That's cool, but WorktheWood seems to be after a similar sound that I prefer.

I use the MBD-1 for low gain Overdrive tones. It does them better than anything else Ive used. I like how it sounds cranked as a distortion but those tones with the depth knob between 9 and 12 o'clock are what I live for.

Does anybody has any experience comparing the MBD-1/2 to the Grizzly bass or Pork Loin? So far those have been my favorite OD's.

i have an MBD-1, a grizzly, and two pork loins (one stock, one with the top end mod), but i haven't done a side by side comparison yet. i can possibly do that later this week. right now all i can say from memory is that the MBD-1 is great sounding OD distortion pedal in it's own right and easily on par with either of them.

I’ve got both a Grizzly Bass and and MBD-1 on my pedal board (with a 2 on it’s way). I use the Grizzly for my lighter “always on” OD and the MBD-1 for heavier, more overdriven sounds. Really, both the Grizzly and the MBD-1 are great at both low gain and high gain sounds, though to my ears the Grizzly is a bit more transparent at lower gain settings. On the other hand, when it comes to high gain sounds the depth control on the MBD-1 is just killer... there’s nothing like it for getting a very heavy but organic overdrive. Think cranked Marshall through 2x15s - slammin’ low end and plenty of top end crunch. So, I find both pedals to be indispensable.
