I had no idea that it was harsher than the MBD...that speaks to me. I like super heavy. Prices still going up in the next day or two?

The dude from Turnstile could certainly use one. lol. War On Women are guite popular and really pretty great while maybe a little more punk than hardcore. I'm not sure I know that much about the MD diy/underground scene. There are a few of us in the Boston area that rep the pedals and are evangelists. You probably know a lot more than I do. Now I am curious thogh. I'll try and convince one of our guitarists to play through my pedal tonight.
All this curmudgeon talk is finally getting me intrigued. I’ve been so satisfied with the MBD that I never really considered the curmudgeon before now.

Gigged with an MBD2 for the first time last Saturday. And it was glorious. I planned to use it for fills and solos only, but it was a bit … rainy …

The Curmudgeon is thick AF. It’s a nasty gnarly beast. My whole issue with it is clarity. Which is just my personal preference on my personal setup. It’s not as articulate as I hoped it would be like my other distortion pedals. It still definitely has a place and can be perfect for someone else. When I get the level of gain I like it sounds like it’s more of a fuzz to me and if I calm it down a bit than it’s not as angry as I like. Things got beef for days and still cuts, just for my band and setup it’s not jiving.
Total change of subject. A few months ago I posted about my MBD 1 not passing signal when in bypass mode. Father of fires suggested that I send it in for a check up. I also posted about having an early version where the stickers were starting to peel of the enclosure. Anyway, I sent it in and asked if there were any lousy blemished enclosures hanging around that I might buy as a replacement. Those glorious bastards and Damnation fixed the unit, and replaced the enclosure with a perfect looking black and white box. NO CHARGE! I'm not even the original owner. they owed me nothing. I can't emphasize how incredible this level of customer service is. I am incredibly grateful, and my board will NEVER be without a Damnation Audio device. Coolest company ever.

The shift switch in my (used) MBD-1 went wonky.
Sent it back to Jeff for a check-up.
He fixed it (for free), AND sent back some swag.
A helluva guy, that makes a killer product, and gets my full support.
You have been around TB long enough to know that a post like this without a photo of the new enclosure is, at the very least, disappointing.
Yep, Jeff knows how to do! I think most of us here can share similar stories. Grade A customer service in an age where customer service really isn’t even a thing anymore. Good enough?? In this case, is a really huge understatement….
Advice needed: currently using either a rat or a gci bass brutalist into an orange terror bass for my hardcorepunk/dbeat band and looking for some alternatives. I like it agressive but not clanky or fizzy.

Well stylistically our bands are pretty similar. I have a Curmudgeon. It definitely fits the bill. It has gobs of gain and distortion on tap and still sounds distinct and cuts through two guitarists with ease. What's your bands name?
it’s just a matter of taste. Personally with your setup, I’d go MBD. The crum is more of a dist to me. Which you have. The MBD excels more in drive territory imo. But it can do dist too. I just think of it as a drive pedal. The crum is a dist. To me.
I don’t really need more drive options, just 1 heavy distorted always on tone. So that again pushes me into crum territory. Thanks for the feedback
Working on the older pedals like yours is always a blast. I think Jeff was as excited to get an old sticker box back as you are to get one of the later pro finished ones.
How would you describe the Bass Brutalist? I have built the Brutalist Jr. for some friends and I think that might be my next build.
It has some common ground with a rat, but a bit more abrasive and with less range distortion wise.
Very ratty. Yet it’s own thing. The other side adds a lot. I had the two mods added to mine. I can’t remember exactly what they do. But they are both three way switches that effect the gain and or the low end response in various ways. I don’t believe either are mid notches. But I could be wrong. Can’t remember. I dig that one.
