Yeah it’s a big ass pedal for sure and the power supply isn’t much smaller. The eagle pedal is definitely a Cat/Rat Tail with a clean blend. I also have an Afterlife which is the purple one with the skull. I also run stereo Mesa Busters and the Bottle Rocket gets waaaay nastier than my amps are capable of which is what I like about the Busters, lots of headroom.
Damn, sounds awesome. Makes me want to just pull the trigger on a bottle rocket and give it a whirl. And @RissKippery ...impressive guess on the fuzzrocious! I’ve also been looking for a good Rat and figure I’m long overdue to try the Rat/Cat tail.
Hahahaha.The Bottle Rocket is a darker drive and some may not like it by itself. The thing about it is that it stacks amazingly and can be manipulated with a eq or solid preamp to kind of make it really shine. I finally swapped out the old groove tubes that were in it for an extra pair of Mesa preamp tubes I had and definitely noticed a difference and improvement in tone. I’ve read of other people experimenting with different tubes and getting different results. It’s definitely a great pedal but you gotta really like it to dedicate that much board space on and underneath. It cannot be powered by anything other than its own dedicated wall wart.
Attn everyone: don’t buy the Bottle Rocket. I want to be the only one with it on my board. Just look how big it is, you don’t want that. Also don’t buy the whirlwind bass eq, it’s not like the most amazing tone enhancing pedal ever or anything. Plus, you don’t want the same board as everyone else. Leave me to these unnecessarily large pedals and I’ll take that burden alone.

Honestly though, the massive power supply is kind of a turnoff. My inner ocd is very happy with the way my board is powered right now. I don’t think I would find room in this setup for a massive power adapter. But that giant gaping hole in my board looks like the perfect space
The CatTail is cool, but for me, the Earthbound Audio Iron Pig V2 kicked it off my board.
Yeah I’ve been eyeing @Matt Dean iron pig v2 for awhile. Need my Magick fuzz or Darkglass omicron to sell to justify bringing another dirt pedal in.
Get rid of the omicron. The Iron Pig is cool and has a lot of versatility but for me the Rat/Cat Tail has a very specific type of grind that I like more. Don’t think you could go wrong with either though.
Yeah I’m tryibg to ditch the Magick and the omicron. Both very cool pedals but not what I need. The MBD does what the omicron does and does it better IMO and my fuzz tastes have just changed I suppose. It’s probably the most killer muff I’ve played but lately I’ve been enjoying the superfuzz style tone of my buzzz. Yeah, I’d honestly be happy with either Rat Clone. I just want one for that filthy grind.
I just love fuzz pedals even though I don’t use them a ton in my band. I’ve just always been a fuzz junky haha. I can’t bring myself to try the X7. I’ve just been unhappy with every Darkglass pedal. The omicron was my last attempt to love them and it’s on its way out. I’ll either grab the Iron Pig or the Rat Tail as soon as one of my pedals sell. I’ve also got the Curmudgeon on the way to give me some fresh distortion tones.There is not one pedal that I’ve ever played that does filthy grind better than the rat tail. It’s amazing for that stuff. It’s very unique but also, for me, won’t fit everything I do. So it’s not on my board atm. But it probaly will he again someday.
The other ones I use to do some serious grinding is the MBD into the X7. Oh man is it good. Then I use my Longsword for a type of rat sound just a little more refined and transparent. Fuzz has always been a tough one for me. I’ve alwaya struggled with fitting it somewhere. I used it in my old band a bit. But this newer project I’ve been playing in there just isn’t a place for bass fuzz. However, that project disbanded this past few days. So me and the BL (rhythm guitar and lead vocal) are starting something new. So who knows, maybe fuzz and my rat tail will find their way back on
I haven’t been actively been trying to sell the Iron Pig as it is worthy of collecting (but it is still for sale). However, I’ve settled on the 125b Volt Thrower as my Rat of choice. It doesn’t have a clean blend like the IP, but I did just pick up a Bloop that I will use with the VT when I get back to Northern Cali.
I didn’t like my Volt Thrower but maybe it was the lack of blend. That’s what draws me to the Iron Pig.

I had the Volt Thrower for a while. Although it’s a great distortion it seems to loose what I like about rats a bit with all the clipping options and I kind of felt that way about the Iron Pig as well. Both stellar distortions but they don’t grind like the Fuzzro. I also tried a Dunn Grand Deciever or Traitor, I can’t remember which version right now. I’ve tried the Blakemore ROUS and many other rat clones and for me and my setup, the rat tail gets the starting role.
I actually find the clipping options kind of annoying. I really don’t have a reason I guess but it is what it is. I found it to be a turnoff on the Dunwich Wizard. I guess I just prefer simplicity!
I find it to be very challenging, but it’s a discipline worth developing, enforced simplicity. When faced with too many options, find one, and stick with it.
Yeah I hear ya. When I had the wizard I did just find one I liked, I think it was around the 7 o clock mark. It reminds me of like contour settings and amps and stuff which I’ve alwayd hated. Maybe I’m just picky lol. I miss the wizard fuzz a little but good lord that thing was massive!! Between my buzzz and my depth charge I’ve been pretty satisfied with fuzz.
