Darkglass Microtubes 900 Class D Amp

I feel these are bad examples, because they were recorded direct with not speaker sim. The Tech21 for example, already has a speaker sim....but the P bass clip made me want to try to two together:

Mesa d-800 is 699$ in USA but 990 € in Europe (approximately 1100$).

It would be interesting to know the price of Microtubes 700 for European market.

If it is equivalent of 999$, i.e. 890 €, than it will be still significantly cheaper than d-800.

I was very interested in d-800, but European prices cooled my enthusiasm.

We'll there is the European VAT essentially. Something needs to pay for our superior healthcare. ;)

True dat, unfortunately.
Tis the reason why I very often refrain from buying US stuff.
Would love to check out the new Genzler amp for instance, but I strongly assume it's going to be awfully pricey.
If you look at Bergantino cabs over here ... :eek: better rob a bank first. There's no way I could justify that (buying a Berg cab as well as robbing a bank).
Very much looking forward to the Darkglass amp.

Yep - that'll do it

I have been using the VMT always on (touch o grit) for the last year so I decided to upgrade to the VMTD which I should get next week

I am going to try using the VMT as a more heavy overdrive option with the VMTD and see if I like it - but I am feeling like I should probably just trade it for the B3K (used to own one so I know what they're about)

This is likely to be an unpopular opinion around this part of the forums, and I'm probably not a very good representative of the primary target audience of the Darkglass products, but I often feel like I get the sound I'm looking for better from modern class D amps (Genz Benz, GK MB800, etc.) than traditional tube amps. Honestly, I think Ampeg SVTs and Markbass amps sound great, and I use them from time to time, but while it's the perfect sound for classic rock, it's not the sound I'm looking for. I'm looking for really harsh, bright, clear, articulate and slightly brittle tones, and I don't really appreciate the tube sag or tube compression or tube warmth as much as getting a brutal sledgehammer tone. To be honest, I would rather run my B7K into a mixer rather than into an SVT, which seems to take some of the edge off my tone.

So when I heard rumours of a Darkglass amp coming up, I was really hoping that it WOULDN'T be a tube power section or one of those heavy rail sections. Having it run into an ICE module fits my needs perfectly (I was considering upgrading to the GK MB800 for some time, but hesitating because I don't really need to spent money at the moment, and then when the rumours came up I decided to just wait and see).

Maybe my ears are just immature at the moment and I'll come to love tube power sections eventually, but for now it's just not me.

I'm almost 40, and have felt this way for a while. My B3K and VMT go straight into my GK800RB, and that's almost too warm for me. I hate 1K high mids, hate that there's nothing until you get to 4K for the highs on the GK. I have a Mesa Bass 400 sitting in my spare bedroom if that tells you anything. But the Mesa is a bad example, bc it breaks up harshly like a proper S.S. rock amp(I like it, but am just as happy with the GK+DG)

I like 1.5K-3K. Early Faith No More(S.S. Peavey) and Shellac(S.S. Traynor) are good examples of this breakup in the very high mids. Think of a Detroit Diesel. There's plenty of bass, but there's a metallic sound up top, too. Maybe I grew up around too many musclecars as well, specifically Windsor-powered Fords, which have a signature hollow metallic growl with the right exhaust. I hear that in my favorite bass tones.

I used to hate the SVT, but I think I would like it with a B7K out front now. This was with an SVT2, and is what made me want a Darkglass pedal originally. Especially the picked portion.

For quite a while I felt I didn't like the sound of the SVT3, but recently I found that running a B7K into the power amp section sounded not bad.
