David Bowie succumbs to cancer.

While I was not a fan of his work during his golden years, I grew into an appreciation of his stuff as time went by. Oddly enough, when I think of MTV, back when it was actually Music Television, I think of David Bowie and his videos. Particularly "Let's Dance" and "China Girl".

RIP David, may your music live on in influence, and in the hearts and minds of your fans.

Speaking of "Golden Years"...

David Bowie really is one of the few artists I can think of that whatever the situation I'm in, one of his songs would apply in some form another. His music transcends genre and time.

And "China Girl". Definitely one of the most perfect songs ever written and recorded, IMO.

Woke up this morning and turned on the news. After being told it was 6 degrees with a wind chill in the negatives it switched to national news the first being Bowie succumbing to cancer. All his hits that were my faves flashed through my mind. His individualism and concepts were way before his time and he turned me on to the genius of Reeves Gabrels. RIP David and I wish this all is just a moonage daydream.

Rebel Rebel. Probably my all time favourite guitar riff. And it was actually played by Bowie. Just found that out a couple years ago. Always thought it was Mick ronson or someone else. When I learned it was Bowie, that just made him much cooler.

Went to the supermarket on Saturday morning to pick up some things, and heard "Let's Dance" playing over the ceiling speakers. Thought to myself that I should really go back and listen to the bass parts on that amazing album, and fondly remembered seeing him perform during the Serious Moonlight tour.

On Sunday, I read a review of "Blackstar" in The Boston Globe. Thought to myself that I should buy it, along with "The Next Day," which I somehow missed.

Woke up this morning to the sad news of his passing. Rest in peace, David. You may be gone, but your talents will live on.

Such a charismatic artist, such an innovator in the pop world. Very few have had that kind of scope and influence. I recall when he had just come out with the Ziggy look and was on the front page of the Melody Maker. He said then, "I'm going to be huge, and it's frightening in a way." He chose his collaborators well, and put his own stamp on the impulses he channeled from all over.

This was a surprise, sorry to hear about him having to deal with cancer. I especially liked his collaboration with Brian Eno in the Berlin Trilogy.

I had to pick up my daughter at the bus terminal 3 Oclock this morning. I knew something was wrong, she told me and we hardly spoke while I drove to her apartment. Neither of us knew this was coming. Nobody did.

This giant spanned so many generations and so many genres. What an influence on...everybody. This hitting home hard.

I spent hours on the livingroom floor with headphone blasting listening to my brothers copy of Hunky Dory. Still one of my all time favorites some 40 odd years later. Put in on this morning, couldnt eat. Messed up & sad.

Seems all his stuff was fresh. One of the few that kept producing mold-breaking music throughout a long career. RIP

RIP to one of the most influential artists ever. I remember back when I was a pre-teenager and then a teenager, finding the music that I loved, which was Alice Cooper, Yes, Beatles, etc., and then discovered David. He was so different and cool. He never sold out and I loved how he wasn't afraid to push the envelope. I will miss him.
