David Nordschow Amplification

But if they have endorsers, wouldn't they at least have prototypes? If not I wouldn't put much weight behind the endorsement. Not that I do anyways.
My guess is that the endorsers are people Dave has been working with for several years, who were happy to be "endorsing artists" for him without even a prototype to endorse.

I am familiar with Lane from The Bottom Line listserv. I have had nothing but good experiences with him and will give him the benefit of the doubt.

KO

Having subscribed (posted very sporadically) to that very same mailing list from 1996 until it recently became a yahoo group iirc... I had difficulty seeing the Lane that used to post there being the bad guy everyone spoke of in this thread. He always seemed a polite person with tons of integrity.

Then again, I can even sympathise with CK and JB (who certainly weren't as polite!) who used to frequent said list. It seems strange how they are now considered enormous douchebags when what they have is an angular personality and an enormous need to share their wealth of knowledge. I, personally, may not think every note they've played is God's gift to mankind but certainly there's something to be learned from their materials nonetheless?

Excellent post. Lane has been an excellent contributor to TBL.

I, personally, will not. I have plenty to say!!

I have lost interest in the products, gained interest in the discussion.

As usual, my bassbrudder Cyrus, with whom I seemingly share some bizzare simpatico insofar as opinions on talkbass, has expressed my sentiments, but for the first time incompletely.... and I really dont care if I get shushed by mods on this issue.

Mike Winnen is shyster, con-artist, thief, liar, egomaniac, perpetual mincer of words, and guilty of every form and variety of paid-advertisement-posing-as-unbiased-opinion BS possible in a forum such as Talkbass, and used whatever means possible to ingratiate himself to manufacturers in order to fatten his stack of free gear.... going so far as to blackmail one with false negative press should they NOT provide him with free gear.

Not only did he VERIFIABLY steal no small amount of money from goodhearted and charitable Talkbass members, but also accepted money, free gear, press and other compensation for coming on this board and presenting himself as an average joe who had tried all the rest and found the best in **insert manufacturer name here**.... aggressively posting about said product, flaming detractors of said product, voraciously PM'ing new people or potential buyers making outlandish claims and promises, and violently attacking (via PM of course) anyone who called him out on his BS..... all in an effort to glorify himself and increase his gear horde without coming out-of-pocket.

I once PM'd him asking to "take it easy" after flaming a young student of mine on this board for questioning the torrent of lavish praise he heaped on a product which he had completely denounced just a few months prior.... and he responded with a foul-mouthed tirade of personal insults, threats and the general statement that a little "p*ssant loser" such as myself had no business commenting on the behavior of a bassist of his "stature".

I can also say that I am aware, second hand of course, of one manufacturer whom he contacted offering to review, for the benefit of the public, a new speaker cabinet. He convinced the manufacturer to send him the cabinet without payment for review purposes only and to be returned thereafter. When the cabinet arrived, he called the manufacturer and claimed to have found a whole host of very serious issues with it, but that these would be overlooked should he be allowed to keep the cabinet free of charge. The manufacturer refused and threatened criminal charges and a lawsuit. The cabinet was returned and no review was posted.

He did something similar with another manufacturer and the results were strewn all over talkbass, during which he was shown to have lied about almost everything.... making sure all the while to personally attack everyone who challenged him..

This is certainly a very poor choice by Mr. Nordschow [sp?].... and I feel quite certain he will be made to suffer for it eventually...

Please..... let the buyer beware of anything involving Mike Winnen.

PS - If anyone was wondering, Mike Winnen is one of the main reasons everyone on this board who has any brand affiliation whatsoever must disclose so..... the one good thing that came out of all his mess.

I would say that's my $0.02 but that's more like my whole wallet full of opinion.

I'm all for hearing what David's come up with.

I'm not trying to be naive or defend anyone but I do believe that "those who are blameless can go ahead and cast the first stone" might apply in this situation.

If we want to get this picky about our "stuff" and the people who make or are affiliated with the "stuff" we own and use then we had better start with bigger fish in the frying pan than the guys who David Nordschow has hired on....

seriously.

to bad mouth a company/product that hasn't even been heard let alone seen based on a couple of employees on the payroll :eyebrow:
seems fairly juvenile.
I do think that what BMW had done with his 'charity' shenanigans shouldn't be excused or overlooked as to the potential of his current state of character but really.

can we focus on the gear a bit?

+1

There's plenty of fine gear being made by respectable folks who don't associate with scoundrels...

you can even learn from douchebags like ck and jb. being a douchebag doesn't make someone a bad teacher...just makes them good teachers who are douchebags :D

In addition, I've met David Nordschow a few times, Eden being located 30 minutes out of the Twin Cities and all. Later I got my cousin to get a job there - she was putting voice coils in speakers. David was always a wonderful guy.

None of the bad things that happened with Eden happened until after he sold the company, so it seems a trifle unfair to be blaming him for all of the troubles.

After a dozen years of waiting and planning, I bought a very nice bass rig last year. It's all Genz Benz. I won't be a DNA customer because I don't need a new rig. I have no hesitation in dealing with DNA though, and I wish David (and Lane) good fortune.

As for speculation, I suspect that DNA has some plans but are possibly stepping up to get a little venture capital flowing.

other than the disclosure comment in the p.s. (that was in the works way before winnen joined tb) i see nothing in this post that is not correct. pretty much nailed it all on the head in fact, about our dearly departed bigmikew.

This is cool news for the bass world. However, it makes me appreciate a company like Genz Benz's business model even more. Don't announce something until it's ready to hit shelves. No one (aside from a few testing) knew about the Shuttle 9.0 until it was released and could be bought. That way they aren't making outlandish claims and big promises they can't back. They make and excellent product and when they tell you about it, you can buy it. Sorry for the slight derail.

I'm guessing that's not how tb is gonna react to this until there is some kind of GAS distraction. :scowl:

I'm to the point now that satan could be marketing these amps and I'd still give em a chance just because I'm tired of all the talk of some irrelevant persons shortcomings. This isn't the moralbass forums after all.

Like I said...I was just really excited to see more gear from a great builder/designer. We should ALL be excited at such prospects.

I spoke with Daivd some time ago in a studio here in Chicago. He was at the time basically neighbors with Dave Funk, whom he is good friends with. What he had at the time was more of a consulting firm than another amp company, so I am glad the "eden" is back in the game.

Dave is definately one of the nicest people out there. We talked about Dave and Russ Allee ( another monster and nice guy ) and just amps in general.

While there may be sour apples in our lot, they thankfully are few and far between.

I wish David all the success he can manage. I remember when Eden was considered head and shoulders over everything else, and it's a shame it turned out the way it did. I hope David can build something new.

There was a time where I swore by Eden as well. WT550 head and a 210 XLT cab. That was a great rig. Not ultra light or anything, but great sound. I had an issue with the head and that's where Eden and I parted. That whole selling/buyout/whatever situation was not good. I am curious about what he will come up with as well. Not sure if there's anything that can pull me away from Genz Benz, but we'll see.
