David Nordschow Amplification

I, personally, will not. I have plenty to say!!

I have lost interest in the products, gained interest in the discussion.

As usual, my bassbrudder Cyrus, with whom I seemingly share some bizzare simpatico insofar as opinions on talkbass, has expressed my sentiments, but for the first time incompletely.... and I really dont care if I get shushed by mods on this issue.

Mike Winnen is shyster, con-artist, thief, liar, egomaniac, perpetual mincer of words, and guilty of every form and variety of paid-advertisement-posing-as-unbiased-opinion BS possible in a forum such as Talkbass, and used whatever means possible to ingratiate himself to manufacturers in order to fatten his stack of free gear.... going so far as to blackmail one with false negative press should they NOT provide him with free gear.

Not only did he VERIFIABLY steal no small amount of money from goodhearted and charitable Talkbass members, but also accepted money, free gear, press and other compensation for coming on this board and presenting himself as an average joe who had tried all the rest and found the best in **insert manufacturer name here**.... aggressively posting about said product, flaming detractors of said product, voraciously PM'ing new people or potential buyers making outlandish claims and promises, and violently attacking (via PM of course) anyone who called him out on his BS..... all in an effort to glorify himself and increase his gear horde without coming out-of-pocket.

I once PM'd him asking to "take it easy" after flaming a young student of mine on this board for questioning the torrent of lavish praise he heaped on a product which he had completely denounced just a few months prior.... and he responded with a foul-mouthed tirade of personal insults, threats and the general statement that a little "p*ssant loser" such as myself had no business commenting on the behavior of a bassist of his "stature".

I can also say that I am aware, second hand of course, of one manufacturer whom he contacted offering to review, for the benefit of the public, a new speaker cabinet. He convinced the manufacturer to send him the cabinet without payment for review purposes only and to be returned thereafter. When the cabinet arrived, he called the manufacturer and claimed to have found a whole host of very serious issues with it, but that these would be overlooked should he be allowed to keep the cabinet free of charge. The manufacturer refused and threatened criminal charges and a lawsuit. The cabinet was returned and no review was posted.

He did something similar with another manufacturer and the results were strewn all over talkbass, during which he was shown to have lied about almost everything.... making sure all the while to personally attack everyone who challenged him..

This is certainly a very poor choice by Mr. Nordschow [sp?].... and I feel quite certain he will be made to suffer for it eventually...

Please..... let the buyer beware of anything involving Mike Winnen.

PS - If anyone was wondering, Mike Winnen is one of the main reasons everyone on this board who has any brand affiliation whatsoever must disclose so..... the one good thing that came out of all his mess.

I would say that's my $0.02 but that's more like my whole wallet full of opinion.

This is my take on things too. Mike's comportment on this board along with his conduct in relation to donated 'charity' funds places him in the rare position of really being the worst of what TB has to offer.

Now, for DN to take this person and put him in the 'artists relations-public relations-promotions' role seems to be the WORST thing someone who's starting a new brand based on past public trust could do.

A quick google search would have turned up all of this crap, so due diligence has not been done. Beyond which, TB is the largest and most vocal community of bass players in a world that becomes more and more web centric, this seems to be not just shooting yourself in the foot, but taking the foot right off at the ankle.

i'll tell you, when i see the words "charity," "2 recipients," and "basses that cost over $1000," i'm heading for the hills. easy to say that in hindsight, but come on...i'm all for helping out a brother in time of need, but can't he gig on a Squier for a little while? ;) my v4b/810 got burned up in a bar fire 20 years ago. our singer let me use her peavey tnt combo until i got a new amp. that's a musician's relief fund, not sadowskys and mtd's.

Yeah, hard times. I got ripped off/my job is on the skids/my wife left me with all the stuff. And I so need a designer bass. Let's see: that top-of-line Dingwall Prima is probably what I'll require just to want to touch the neck. Now I just need someone to buy it for me. I can't be seen with a lowly MIM or Ibe, I'm a top class kinda guy. Thank god for CHARITY.

That does send warning bells off, even ; }

I Googled Libel and Slander and found this:

LIBEL AND SLANDER occur when a person or entity communicates false information that damages the reputation of another person or entity. Slander occurs when the false and defamatory communication is spoken and heard. Libel occurs when the false and defamatory communication is written and seen. The laws governing libel and slander, which are collectively known as DEFAMATION, are identical.

I'm not defending anyone. Just curious to know the exposure to legal action based on posts on the internet describing a named individual.

FWIW the only reason I didn't say pretty much exactly what pablomigraine said was because I was trying to stick to "the public record" of what happened, for legal reasons. But personally, long before the charity boondoggle BMW was already on my ignore list because of (what I perceived as) his obvious and hostile shilling for brands, and his outrageously inappropriate behavior in general.

Nordschow just lost a chance at my future business by surrounding himself with potential bottom feeders. That In and of itself doesn't bode well for Nordschow's character, barring he's completely naive of his partners. I'd find that hard to believe looking at the original success of Eden.

God Bless, Ray

Bongo,

You've brought up a point I'd like to delve further into (via PM if needed). I'm a sort of newbie to TB so please forgive but, If BMW was so much of an a$$hat, why would ANYONE at TB donate to a charity with him at the helm?

If I'm reading everything right, BMW was a jerk prior to trying to establish MRF charity. I'd rather hand the $ directly to those in need than allow a creep like BMW the "grandure" of distributing my donation and being deemed a help to those who really need.

I've only been here since 12/07 so I don't know the entirety of what happened, but I'm still confused.

God Bless, Ray

+1
Appreciate the insight
Perhaps those of you that attend NAMM might privately speak with David (in a respectful way) regarding the TB community concern.

What are the chances Mike Winnen will ve at NAMM?

I'm all for hearing what David's come up with.

I'm not trying to be naive or defend anyone but I do believe that "those who are blameless can go ahead and cast the first stone" might apply in this situation.

If we want to get this picky about our "stuff" and the people who make or are affiliated with the "stuff" we own and use then we had better start with bigger fish in the frying pan than the guys who David Nordschow has hired on....

seriously.

to bad mouth a company/product that hasn't even been heard let alone seen based on a couple of employees on the payroll :eyebrow:
seems fairly juvenile.
I do think that what BMW had done with his 'charity' shenanigans shouldn't be excused or overlooked as to the potential of his current state of character but really.

can we focus on the gear a bit?

I had a little run in with him a few years ago. IIRC, I had posted regarding the relatively high price of G-B cabs compared to similar products from other manufacturers.
At the time, he claimed to be a G-B endorser, and his response to me implied that I was a complete idiot or amateur, etc.
Shortly thereafter, I saw he was banned, but I do believe he returned after that.

Reading through some of his posts over the years, the words "bully" and "egomaniac" always came to mind. :spit:

His affiliation with the new company won't affect me, as my next cab will be a fEarful of some sort, and my G-K amplification has made me happy for 22 years.

On the other hand:
* If this guy Winnen is an industry heavy hitter and has the ability to generate capital while also being a compelling salesman
* If the business is desparate to either generate capitol; find distributors, lower manufacturing costs, network outside of their normal industry channels; generate press they could not get on their own, etc
Then one might say that hiring a hit man regradless of business scrupels or honesty might be a way to stay in business. Perhaps David is so strung out financialy, that it's either this road or loose everything; it's not like the old days when you could borrow large sums of money based solely on a strong business plan, good credit, and a good name. Could it be that teaming with the devil is a short term survival plan?

Personaly, I'm so thankful to have what I have and be where I am, that I can not condone that type of business behavior regardless of the circumstances.

Therefore either the owners don't know the history - not good for a company owner to have missed what you have described as a major character flaw -
I believe that unless an individual under goes some major life change (a birth, a death, sobriety, huge change in mental outlook due to years of psycotherapy, recovering from a terrible illness, etc.) then that individual will be consistent in how they do business and interact with others
or
Perhaps this person is necessary for company survival - they would have to have a product so far advanced than anything ever built for me to condone that type of business plan; maybe it's a decent bass amp and it also has the potential to cure cancer; trying to be open minded here

I wonder if it is possible for someone to have a meaningful conversation with DNA at NAMM and report back as to their management team, business plan, and products accurately and without holding predjudices
Tragicaly any publication, including Tom's will not be able to touch the real story with a barge pole due to the legal implications as well as the potential to allienate friends, other companies, suppliers, and distributors of DNA

The key word is FALSE. I don't think BMW wants to go to court to try to prove that.......
