I got both of these in 2011 back when Amazon had some good deals on basses. I got them for less than $300 a piece.

Amazon was selling a bunch of different Deans for under $100.

I'm surprised nobody's brought up that mysterious batch of Edge Q4 Bartolini basses Amazon sold before they were even made a couple of years ago.

MSRP was $999.99 and I got mine for $132, but we all had to wait months for them to be built.

I mean, it was a Dean, it was a furniture bass, it was an active, it was a skinny neck plinky slap-N-pop "modern bass guitar," etc., etc. and had about six strikes against it for me to ever personally use it.

BUT...except for a tiny screwdriver ding on one of the pickups, it was an absolutely flawless build. If you follow my posts, you know I almost never say that about a bass at any price.

US Bartolini pickups with EMG active control...which would have cost more than I paid for the whole bass...and frankly, it's probably more than I could sell the whole bass for. Deans are just death for resale. :hmm:

[No, I don't want a number.]

I know Dean Guitars has their issues with reputation and quality control at times. They get a lot of grief for abusing the whole Dime signature thing too. But I have been a loyal fan of Deans for a very long time, and play them quite a bit. I have a nice stable of vintage and limited Dean guitars and basses. I play bass in an original band, and try to play my Deans at every show. I never like to be the guy that plays the same thing as everyone else. And a lot of the Dean basses I play have their own unique look and feel... at least just enough that I'm not playing the same P or J or Ibanez as the flock. So good or bad, I am a loyal Dean enthusiast.

Here are a couple of my Dean Basses for you guys to check out.

One you wont find, Hillsboro USA proto, never finished, birdseye maple neck...

Ah, very nice! Hillsboro Basses kick arse.

Funny story. I was getting set to play at a Dean Guitars event a few years ago, and Jon Hill handed me a bass that just came off his bench after being assembled. My buddy Chris helped him unwrap the masking tape he used to protect the fretboard as he dressed the frets earlier that day. It was the very first USA Hillsboro Bass that came out of the then new Dean custom wood shop. I took it, ran on stage, and had a hell of a time with it. Been a fan of the Hillsboro ever since. There is a really bad quality youtube video of that performance floating around. \m/
