Dean Club!!!

The pictures of the cherry are very beautiful, and the trans purple too. I got it for $150. Needs to be gone through: condition/polished, setup, and new strings. It has some dings and cracks in the lacquer that I may try to repair, but i would not want to mess it up!
$150?

Holy crap! You got a steal!

Granted I don’t know how much of a reconditioning it needed, but you did really well!!!!

Thanks! I've been really lucky with used gear so far as I build up a rig. The hardware needs polished, fretboard cleaned, new strings and action set lower, and there is a little crackle in the input jack, so maybe a little soldering. The blemishes can all be repaired with some prep work and superglue apparently, but I'm not too worried about it! I'm playing through a NYC Epifani T112 and a GK MB500 Fusion and it sounds incredible. I think the brass nut does a lot for the tone, and really makes it punchy on the open notes!

That is an absolute steal for that bass.

It's worth $300 just for the EMG pickups and EMG pre-amp.
The tuners are Schallers, thats another $100.
Getting a luthier to cut a brass nut is another $100.

Five piece maple and walnut graphite reinforced neck.
Alder body wings with a proper figured maple top, not a veneer.
Wenge fretboard.
Abalone and MOP inlay on the fretboard and headstock.
Two EMG 35CS soapbar pickups and an EMG BTS pre.

Congrats on that score...

(for $150 you should be in jail for Grand Theft!)

Yeah, really nicely built, beautiful basses.

Beautiful! Do you know how many of these were made at the Czech factory? Also, what case are you using for yours? I was told the Dean Edge case is a perfect fit.
It is

I’m the Dean nut job here at TB :D
I own at least 20 of them
I wouldn’t steer you wrong

This is one of the two cases I bought at the same time from Instrument Alley

All of the Dean Edge basses are based on the Czech made Edge basses. Dean switched to manufacture in Korea and special models made in USA

The Edge 4 and Edge Pro (not 2019 models) come closest in quality to the Czech made Edge basses

A Dean Jeff Berlin signature bass was also made in the same Czech factory

I invite you to browse through the pages of this club.

Long time since I posted here, glad to see the club still chugging along.

So I recently purchased one of the new Fender MIM Player P's and think it's great, but shortly afterward saw these Dean Paramount's were on sale for a whopping $259. So I just ordered one of the red and maple versions.

Best case I like the Dean more and can return the Fender to save myself $400. 2nd best case I've got two nice P basses. The Paramount should arrive sometime next week.

New Dean owner here - picked up a 1999 Dean European Custom Select Improv 4 for a song off of craigslist. Really amazed by the quality of this bass and also its heft! It's a lot heavier than it looks but so comfortable to play, and to look at :) View attachment 3532956 View attachment 3532957View attachment 3532958 View attachment 3532959 View attachment 3532960 View attachment 3532961

Looks like the last time you stopped in was April 2018. Glad you stopped in!

Quite a few of us have jumped on the Paramount and Juggernaut band wagon including yours truly :)

Here’s my NBD for my Paramount

Happy to be here, thanks for the warm welcome! Tons of great info on the history of these Czech models in this thread. Thanks for the tip on the case! I'll order a case tonight :)
You can definitely get a Gator case for less. But I have not seen a lower price than on Instrument Alley for a Dean Edge case. You can get a lower price than advertised if you register with IA

I did get another Dean Edge case off of Music 123 for a cheap price as it was a scratch and dent sale. It really wasn’t all that noticeable so you might want to check there too, but that’s hit or miss.

Just a note
This bass and the Juggernaut do not fit in the Dean Edge case unless you remove internal padding from the very bottom

Instead I bought two of these
