Deep philosophical question

Does he claim to know there's no afterlife?

That is the entire premise of the logic.

I don't claim that at all, personally. I just withhold belief without evidence. The difference is subtle but important.

Can't argue with your stance as I agree there is no proof either way. However I think the distinction is more than subtle. And I'm not sure I understand how lack of belief assuages concerns in the way the article describes...

No. It never did. She knows me so she wasn't surprised. She found it romantic and laughed it off and lamented that more men don't put barriers around their families. We sat on a beautiful porch and enjoyed the breeze. It wasn't torture but it made my point.

I don't flirt with women at shows either.

What's funny is that these days I am seen as the oddball.

Edit to add: Just when you think I'm odd enough.. .

One of the artists a frequently fill in with is a female singer married to one of my best friends. I never ever call her to ask questions about a show. I text or call my buddy (her guitar player and husband) and have him ask her whatever I need to know. She's my buddy's wife. I am not going to call her. He told me once before that is was unnecessary but also pretty awesome.

But, hey, you guys can live however you want. I want to keep my marriage and my friends. So I set up boundaries on the right side of them.
I got married in 1977....Since then I've been alone in houses etc. with some incredibly good looking, intelligent and witty women....

(Also some of the other kind... )

It's never occurred to me to try to get any of them into bed.....

Why?.....Because I love my wife more than life itself and would never knowingly do anything to hurt her in any way.....

She knows this.....As a result, I don't feel the need to be building barriers of any kind.....

Similarly, my wife feels free to be in other men's company without my being present...

As you say though, we all live our lives in different ways....

If it works...it works.......

I got married the first time in '95. We had a close friend. He was my drummer and taught with her at an elementary school. He could come into my house and see what was in the fridge before he ever said hello to us.
They had an affair.

Our stories shape our lives. I am thrilled that yours has played out the way it has. I'm just not taking any chances this time around. That being said, I don't force my wife into the same rules. She never hurt me so the problem is not hers. I would not be offended if she had the neighbor guy in our house. O just choose my own path with regard to our marriage based on past experiences. Until she breaks my trust she has a clean slate. She can choose her path too.

At no point was I suggesting that everyone should live the way I do and I hope it didn't come across that way.

Does he claim to know there's no afterlife? I'll have to re read that. I don't claim that at all, personally. I just withhold belief without evidence. The difference is subtle but important.

You believe in a StarTrek Utopia as the future of mankind. There is no evidence to support the idea that it will work.

It'll probably be cancelled after two years anyway.

I'm sad now.

"Sherman set the way back machine for 1967 in the Haight Ashbury"
"Ahhhhhh dude, that's lie the third time this week we have gone there. Whoah heavy."

The Wayback Machine would be the ultimate history lesson. What better than to actually be there to observe the goings on first hand. When I was kid I use to love watching the old Irwin Allen show "the Time Tunnel"
