I wanted to put this out there to you guys FYI.

There is a 4-state guitar show in Springfield, Missouri April 7th. Unlike NAMM, one can find and immediately obtain all sorts of vintage instruments and parts as well as all sorts of new instruments of all kinds. We will have a booth there with a NG3 and several NG2s for comparison. If any of you want to take a road trip, stop by and say hello and noodle a bit.
Blues Rocker Lance Lopez will be doing a performance after the show which should be killer!

So, you can talk about all the effects you want, but without some clips, it doesn't amount to much.

Here's the NG-3 (parallel Bridge/Neck, although I'm actually not running this way anymore), live at a recent show. This has the XD but also you can specifically hear what the Divaricator is doing. It very much comes across as a doubling of the bass with one being 'effected' the other being clean. You can run the Divaricator into two amps if you like as well.

For me, the other nice thing is that If you're layering multiple pedals, they go on-off with one switch. You keep your clarity and you can effectively use verb, delay, etc. without it becoming a washy mess. I'm switching in and out with it, and when it's on it's Frazz/XD and a hint of delay. I was being 'careful' but listening back, I'd bring up the loop level a bit. I sometimes have a hard time doing level balancing since there's so much more upper content than my non-effect tone.

We don't even get a day for this kind of snow around here. Full day of 9-5, then gig!

I had a insert cable go south during check and still managed to get across town to CG and back in less than an hour.

Wow.That's an insanely clean recording for a live show.

We use an IEM system with 20 channels of dedicated isolated splits and the mixer unit we use for this allows for full multi-track uncompressed recording to flash drive. So really, we have this quality recording for most of our shows. It's great for us to review how we're playing.

This particular show we also multi-tracked at the M-32 FOH board, but we have less luck with M32/X32 recordings than we do with our Ui24r. Also, since we're really using ours for IEM, we can have our gains set up and locked in. We use the same mics and DIs most every show.

That combo offers a nice bit of movement to the bass part, and keeps the incredibly fat tone you've got going on. I could totally hear that chorus with some octave-down too since you're playing in more of the middle register (hint hint: try it with the OC2!)

Yeah, I'm going to retrieve it the next time I'm in our rehearsal room. I'm thinking that the XD will sound great clean and pushed with the Cali set at a more extreme and fast squish too. I'm fading fast on my resolve not to Particle as well.

Although what I should do is spend that money on a hard-case for the board.

And we are back to snow starting this morn.... ugh. Supposed to snow all through the weekend.
Our street had a ‘ of snow pack up until yesterday..... then it’s started melting and now we have ‘ deep ruts..... sucks for 2wd owners.

Any day now this stuff can disappear for the year.

We took a road break for all of January...and didn't really get much snow. Now we're hitting it hard...and it's comin' down. In town we're at 138" for the season, although I'm south east by about 20 miles and at higher elevation. We're up past 160" or so.

That Cali sounds so good to me:

Totally. I was really hoping for at least another week of goodness to melt the ice build ups before it started coming down again but nope.... and heading to (oops.... edit: Banff) today to boot. I imagine I’ll see a few vehicles in the ditch.

A couple years back we got a surprise dump of about a foot in August. All the trees where really green and it took a lot of branches off with all the weight.
It’s been a snowy/ wintery year across the continent it seems.

Where are you placing this in your signal chain in relation to other effects? I’ve never been a compression guy so I’ve never had one on my board. I know some amps have them so that’s post pedal board, and it’s often added to recordings afterwards which is post pedal board so my assumption would be to put it last on my chain but I see so many people placing it early in the chain. Curious about all this.

My plan is to have this first on my signal chain. I'm debating if it will come before my volume & swell pedals or after. I want any compression to hit the OD/Fuzz and also be there for the envelope filter. I plan on exploring driving the front end of the envelope filter (which likes a good amount of signal in) by pushing the out on the Cali a bit. Also, I think that the compression characteristics will help with any inconsistency in envelope due to signal dynamics and/or if the compression is more extreme may cause some interesting envelope sounds.

I turn my compressor off when I use my fuzz (Broughton Audio Bass Box), since the fuzz compresses the signal quite a bit by itself, and it doesn't play well with my compressor. YMMV.

I run the Cali76 at the bare minimum compression setting (4:1?), so it seems to play fine with any of my distortion pedals. What compression setting are you using?

Now that you mention it though, I noticed that the Southampton Fifth Gear does have a ton of compression built-in. I will try turning off the Cali when using the fifth gear and see what that does. Thanks for making me think of that. My Cali has literally been sitting there "set it and forget it" ever since I got it.

That's pretty much what I'd planned. As of right now I don't have my octave on the board, but because most of my stuff runs through the Divaricator's HP loop, the only real places for Compressor are before that, or exiting it. Makes more sense to have it before that for me I think.

As of right now, I'm not necessarily planning on using it as 'always on' but for specific things...though that could change. ; ) Also the Frazz Dazzler is a quirky OD/gated-fuzz, so there's no such thing as playing nice with it...it's unruly just by itself before you even turn on the second gain stage or mess with the voltage starve.

Sounds a lot like my Subdecay Harmonic Antagonizer. Have you heard that thing? It's nuts!!
