I always buy active, but I tend to mostly play passive. There are a few times when having active ready at the switch has been helpful. A touch of extra bass, etc. all within reach. Not to mention resale value and resale reach is higher as those active only guys won't overlook it.

As a user of effects, I have found passive instruments play more better with effects.
I'd thought the idea of a Tone Capsule in a P bass would be the ultimate rock machine. Except this isn't an option...

Nice! Definitely some 'outside' sounds in there. .Nice little video.From all that I've seen and heard it's got a learning curve and will take some time to tailor useable things.

Although I know a few people who have multiple H9's on their boards to layer sounds. Up and running with the Cali76cb. I'll have to spend some time tweaking, and it will take a bit to figure the best way to handle the perceived brightness it imparts.
...while I was at it, I re-wired and reorganized the board. After having a failed insert cable the other night, I needed to pull it apart anyway. Moved the Fdeck HPF3 under the board (I don't usually have to mess with it anyway), removed my switcher (since I'm using an autoswell instead of a volume anyway), removed the vintage chorus for now (it was glitching oddly although I'm not sure if it was the Frazz or the X/D causing it. Have space for the incoming Particle now.
I also mentioned to Taylor that he should consider designing a 'clean' boost pedal keyed to work with the X/D to bring out it's best in a non-distorted envelope vibe.

Interesting - while I use pedals that don't have it, I really prefer a pedal that allows me to save settings. This way I can properly recall them, not have to tweak between a bunch of knobs to get it just right, especially if you want to switch between songs. "Lets see, about 1/3 up, 1/2, 4/5ths on this knob..."

Most likely I'll only have a few sounds I use a few times during the set, so I'm not dial in much along the way. I'll find one or two things I really like with the Particle and use those. 95% of our set is me running clean and dry. For instance, the XD, I use in two songs right now. If I'm getting picky I may tweak the Frazz a bit more or less for each of those. One song is Frazz-XD. The other is that but A swell in front then a delay in back. The particle will probably be pretty much the same.
Why the glock and the difference there? I only have a super P5 (passive) but am looking at a PJ and trying to figure out how to spec it. Does the glock do passive with tone?
The treble knob on the Glock preamp works as a passive tone. My NG has the Darkglass preamp and there is no tone control in passive, it blows.
Yes the glock has a great passive tone control on the treble knob as mentioned. When bass, mid, treb are flat its also as if in passive mode. Its a beautiful pre that offers fantastic and useful tone options without completely changing the sounds of the bass. I just figure if your going with PJ your already looking for "more" option vs just a P so might as well put the glock in there.
Oddly, I can't seem to see any of the ones in the super P gallery displaying the number of knobs I imagine the glock option comes with. 5?
My SJ5 has the 2-band Glock with 4 knobs. I don't think I've seen any stacked knobs, so it would probably take 5. But I'm guessing most SPs normally get spec'd without a preamp?
Edit- If I were choosing a new SPJ5, I'd seriously consider adding the 3 band Glock. I might not engage it much, but would be nice to have just in case
That said you may have to order a JP to consider that as a configuration. That I do not know.
Just as FYI. Glockenklang does offer a stackable 3 band option that would retrofit into a 2 band on their website. The SJ I sold not long ago may yet get this modification.
I haven't looked at a Dingwall price/option list lately, but I've never heard of the Super P being available with anything other than passive electronics.
