The thing that serious cured any amp GAS I've ever had are my Axe-Fx II (in the studio) and my AX8 (live use). They get the tone and feel of the actual amps nailed so well. It's fun to look at amps still, but, I never really get any inkling of an urge to try or buy new ones.

Yeah, I'm running a Line 6 Helix and the versatility has cured my GAS for amps (at least for a while...)

I just picked up a Line 6 HD500x and loaded the bass pack. I’m still in the “getting to know it” phase, but dang, is it cool.

Lately, I just take my MXR m80 di and the Smoothie compressor and plug into the board. Mostly because the numbskulls I’m playing with tend to be loud and I’m reluctant to add to the din with an amp. If they can’t hear me (not that I think it matters to them) they can tone it down. And, hey, I’m not fired up enough to carry an amp to this poop show.

Ever had a project where you can’t wait for the wheels to fall off? I need to bail on this one. I’d rather go kite and hang out for apres session beers. Drummer and guitard had a promising spat, so, fingers crossed.

I’ve been messing around with using my Streamliner 600 as a power amp, bypassing the pre section, and running my fEarfuls in series at 16 ohms. That gets into the tube power emulation built into the Streamliner. It’s still on the loud side, but it gets a cool tube action going.

The Streamliner has a nice retro sounding tube preamp section of its own. Running it into a pair of fEarful 12/6 cubes, it acts like a completely different amp at 16 ohms rather than 4 ohms.

I’ve been thinking about building a pair of less efficient cabs, based on Dukes “coffee house budget 1-10”.

The whole idea is kind of counter intuitive, but it’s about more saturation at lower volumes.

I think we will always need a amp rig for most things, but the ampless idea sure is nice.

Time to go build some patches with my new amps and cabs.

Me too. And my bass sound has never been better. Axe-FX II + In-ear.

I had it built four years ago and it has performed flawlessly except for the marginal KT-88 that failed after six months.
It has a pleasantly 'big feel' that I've not gotten from any other amp I've plugged into (except the SVT I would occasionally plug into at a local music store back in the day)...

I believe it could be a forever amp!I loved my Orange AD200B with KT88s.

Right now I am just playing at home so I have an Ampeg PF-50T and I dig it. It gets loud enough, has a decent amount of clean and takes pedals like a champ.

If I start playing out on bass again (playing electronic music these days) - I would either go for an Orange again (maybe a Matamp) or a Reeves.

Depending on when "a few years ago" was, but, yeah. Every firmware they improve various aspects. If you were pre-Quantum, you're at least a dozen or more updates out of the loop, some of them were pretty significant.

So if I want to get in on one of the NG3 conversion kits for square pups when they are released, what is the best way to go about it? Direct from Dingwall or through a dealer? I am one province over from Dingwall HQ, so shipping would be cheaper, but not sure if the upgrade kits will be available to order off their website?

Also, is there a current ETA on the kits?
