Hey guys,
can anyone tell me the difference between an ABXXX and a Z3 ? I want to get a new 6 string but somehow have a hard time finding anything on the Z3 at least.
I mean I know which woods are used to make each bass, but which further differences are there ?

Heh, too bad you weren't at my bass convention a couple of weeks ago. I had an AB 3x and Z3 (both 6 string) there you could've tried yourself .
IMO, the largest/main difference lies in the neck. I find the Z3 much more comfortable and "quick" for me. The AB isn't bad, at all, I just lean towards the Z/Prima neck now.

I'd be super interested in a maple/maple vs wenge/wenge comparison. Loved the feel of wenge on my old warwick, but curious/doubtful if it would actually improve the sound over my combustion (maple/maple).

Yeah - I am REALLY wanting to make a high quality recording of the differences.
I purchased Pro Tools and an RME Fireface 802 digital interface and a very souped up PC as well as AKG 414 and EV RE20 mics and several Bergantino cabs to be able to make some recordings to post on YouTube. Problem is, I can't figure out how to make ProTools record audio. This is my first foray into digital recording, and I am a clueless neophyte. If anybody reading this who knows how to use Pro Tools could walk me through how to configure it to receive audio input from the RME Fireface 802 interface, I would be infinitely grateful. Then I could make these recordings, which was actually the only reason I bought all these different basses in the first place.
I wanted to see if I could hear the difference between the wood combinations with my own ear, and then I wanted to publish the recordings for others to hear it for themselves, to put an end to that never-ending argument about "tonewoods" once and for all.

I've got experience recording, but not with ProTools unfortunately.

Maybe try Reaper software. I have also used Studio One. Used to have an RME setup and it was a blast with Reaper. And Sony software. Never tried Pro Tools.

Hey all - I just posted a poll in the general Basses forum - looking for input from Dingwall owners on what pickup rotary selector options YOU would choose if you were going to do a custom conversion from a 4-way rotary to a 6-way rotary on a Z3 or other 3x Dingwall bass.
I was very inspired by the awesome awesome Combustion upgrade that Mo Mina recently did for @nismaniac as described earlier in this thread.

As some know, I have a LeFay Pangton 3x, and the 6-way rotary on that bass provides six fantastic and extremely useful tones, all completely different from one another. Adding a 6-way on a Z3 would open up similar possibilities. The 4-way already provides four great options. But why not add 50% more options, right?

Shoot me a PM and I should be able to help out with the ProTools stuff. Before you message however, did you install any drivers for the RME interface?

You know what's funny is that even with 6 options, I still feel slightly limited! It doesn't take long to become comfortable with the 6 options, they're easily recognized tonally. The 3 positions which are just the solo pickups are mostly for monitoring the tone of each pickup to make sure they're even when they're in combination with the others, but of course it never hurts to have options! If they made a 7 or 8 position rotary switch, that would be perfect because then I would add neck/bridge series and maybe the Dbird option of all 3 together.

I fully understand that I might be kind of weird with wanting all these options haha!!!

Pro Tools is the least user friendly DAW for a beginner: if you’re on a PC either Cubase or Reaper are essentially plug and play, if you’re on a Mac GarageBand is the way to go.

The wenge has a similar attack to maple, but slightly more compressed and with more midrange.

There's been talk on the FB group about pushing for another pink NG2 limited run. I'd love to have a solid pink NG2-4! It would be the ultimate bass to grind the gears of traditionalists (as well as sounding and looking fabulous, ofc).

In the meantime, I'd love to see some pics of pink NG2 basses. I know there are a few floating around on TB!

Just found out my wait time for a 6-string NG3 is at least 12 months!!! Way to s**t en my enthusiasm Dingwall.
