So I decided to try out the FD3 pickups in the Super J5xxx. I like 'em.
I don't see myself spending a lot of time swapping pickups around, and I'm happy enough with these originals.
Anybody want to buy a set of three FDV's and/or a P-Tone for a Super J 5-string?
Here's some random sloppy noodling on the SJ5, running through various tone control settings, so you can hear its versatility and feel its punch:


The other thing I learned from this exercise is that I confirmed my earlier assertion that there is no rational reason to part with a Super J5. I might be convinced for five figures. Maybe...

Diggin the fuzz tone. Truly a remarkable bass. And so easy to play.

They label FD3 as modern. But I love the dynamic range they offer. Can always tone it down. A lot harder to add if it isn’t there to start with. FD3 and the Glock is a perfect starting point for me.

If anything, I'll divest myself of one of my 5 strings (either the NG3 or the Ken Smith) and focus on playing my Ken Smith and NG3 6 strings.

I don't have the Line 6 but I've been working in my Broughton Audio gated fuzz more and more into my bass lines. Love the added harmonic content. And great for analog synth bass lines by itself or combined with my Wonderlove envelope filter and/or my Cog T65 octaver. Very "Moog-ish." Glad you are bonding with the SJ5.

I'd love to see your favorite Wonderlove settings. It has so many knobs, I feel like I could spend hours and still not cover a fraction of the permutations.

Here you go. (Part of) my funk band pedal board. The sensitivity knob on the Wonderlove is critical. Play your bass with the volume knob at or near full and slowly turn the sensitivity knob up from minimum until you hear the filter start to open ("quack"). With active basses that is rarely above 10 o'clock. The other settings really work well for me. I've got the Broughton fuzz in the effects loop of the Wonderlove. That pedal on the bottom right is a Sonic Orb analog phaser that I've been using a lot lately during bass solos. It also combines well with the fuzz. Note: I have since replaced the Doc Lloyd Photon optical compressor (to the left of the fuzz) with the new Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor. It's a righteous compressor and a keeper. Also on my board but not pictured: Noble preamp, Dunlop mini wah pedal, and a DOD analog delay with tap tempo (also for solos). Everything analog now except for the Hyper Luminal, which I believe is modeled.

Both are pretty great in my opinion. Stingwall flows off the tongue more smoothly indeed, but tell me StingDing isn't super fun to say!

I am loving the FDV / DGTC as well for what it is
I am very excited to try the FD3 / DGTC combo in my upcoming fretless.
