Well, rehearsal tonight. GAS gone. My ABHS is literally all the bass I'll ever need. I know I sound like a broken record, but I've really reached my endgame setup. It simply doesn't get any better than this. As you can see, I pretty much set the EQ on the AOU flat. Tone Hammer amp is flat as well. No EQ necessary when the bass itself sounds so amazing. The passive tone and s/p switches gives me all the tones I need. The hype is real when it comes to Dingwall. :)

If I had a dollar for every time I said that... I would have a few dollars I would spend on more gear lol
Problem is (and it's not a problem really) that Sheldon keeps on creating and coming up with better basses every year :)

You have a very nice bass there. I had my eyes on that while it was in the classifieds. In addition to tone, I'll bet it has sustain for days.

Thank you John. As soon as I get my DR Hi Beams on her I'll put her through the paces. The pickguard is not that bad. It's a beautiful bass! I'm not going to replace it, at least not for a while. ;)

Yeah, I thought about Pure Blues too. So far they are the only nickel strings I like. However, I have 4-5 sets of Hi Beams so I'll use those for now. Also, I've been buying my DRs from Amazon and the PBs are $10 more a set (five string).

Due to my injury and physical limitations, I rarely play standing, using a shoulder strap. Today, I tried playing the D Bird while standing, for the first time. I’m impressed at how well it balanced. I had an Epi T Bird, and the Dingwall is so much easier to play, even with the extended scale length. Bravo.

Was it ever in the classifieds? I bought it from England after an ad on the Facebook group. There was a similar 6-string posted a while back which I believe @Flabzilla snagged. That one was active.

Sustain? Oh, very much so! It sings. To the point that it's almost silly. :)

My thought is that it's a little high, but I'm sure you'll settle into place. I vaguely remember a discussion back on the old forum that much of the overt value (half or more) goes into the neck of the instrument, therefore, once you add the pickup costs, preamp, hardware, etc. It would suggest that there's some downward pressure there given the finish damage as well.

You may remember that I recently converted a Combustion V4 to fretless. I've been playing it every day 'acoustically' (aka my quiet morning unamplified practice routine)...and it really has the most perfect fretless tone and timbre. My problem was in the few times I've actually plugged it in, I had a hard time accessing that sound and was finding it somewhat unsatisfying as it was losing what I'm hearing in the mids/uppermids/highs that really make a fretless shine.

I've been mulling over the sitch, and I've been thinking that the Darkglass Tone-Capsule with centers at 500hz and 2.8khz may be just the thing to bring what the instrument does acoustically to the amplified side of things. Given that the 2.8k really amounts to 'this is where string and finger and fret-noise centers'. It seems like it's worth a try. So I have one of those coming to install. Not that the EMG that comes with it is bad, I just wasn't really finding I could intrinsically bring out what I hear unamplfied.

It's also a bit weighted in my mind, since I really like the DGTC in my NG-3 that's my main stage bass these days...and it's the preferred bass by my band.
