I was told by DR they would not properly fit; but then again, after I was told that I never actually tried them. I switched all my parallel fret basses to the Pure Blues and I love them. Not quite a stainless tone but close. I was a die hard Rotosound guy before. These are close enough to that tone and feel better. Last a good while, I have a set on a bass that has been on for well over a year; they are going to be changed this week.

I tried them on my 4 string NG2 and the E string fit...just barely. The first taper down is right at the nut and when you tune it takes it just past it. Good tone but I like the DW nickels better. I ended up putting the Pure Blues on a P bass and they sounded great. Very good strings, no doubt.

I put a down payment on a Vintage Burst D-Bird Standard. Time to add a four string to the family. Now I wait. (pic not actual bass)

So I've had my NG-3 for a little less than a week now. I've played it for at least 2 hours a day, including two band rehearsals and all can say is wow. While the NG-2 pickup configuration is really solid, the NG-3 pickup configuration takes it to the next level.

My standard go to setting is #2 (bridge/middle in parallel). This was also my go to on the NG-2. You would think the tone would be exactly similar. However, the NG-3 just sounds that much more organic. I really love it. Then, when you go to position #4 (bridge/middle in parallel w/ neck in series), the tone is rich and monsterous. Finally, I'm a big fan of the Darkglass pre (this didn't change as I liked it on the NG-2).

The NG-3 has to be one of the best bang for the buck basses out there. Super versatile and high quality at a reasonable price.

Thanks Lee. I also happen to still have a 3X pickup selector. Hmmm... I'll give the stock selector time though first. I also verified that all the pickups are wired series.

I have one in vintage burst coming in, too. I have long pondered over the color, either aquamarine or vintage burst. I decided on the latter. What I like about it is that it takes that 'classic appearance, modern bass under the hood' to the next level. That super funky aquamarine is just too far away from the original T-Bird... would have been my very close second choice though.
