I’m guessing the reverse-burst is a massive pain in the ass, since it’s all done with dyes and the edges are the lightest part.

The traditional sunburst was good at highlighting the positives and hiding issues — contrast stain the center, then spray an opaque finish on the edges.

Dingwall’s reverse-burst is the opposite.

When I asked for reverse burst like blue purple ()


told me that it's more than 2500 $ extra for that color

Was that just the colour? Seems more like the price for an X-top and various colour processes including pre-bleaching.
The actual cost for the reverse burst on the 2018 price list is only a small upcharge on a burst ($160 on top of the cost of a burst).

I was sort of wondering the same thing.Wood upcharge, finish upcharge, if you're also going to do the fancy block inlays...etc. It does add up. And yes some of that stuff is just not cheap to implement. (Coming from a guy who did throw all the options at a Dingwall bass a ways back).

This exact image is the finish was what I was gonna go for originally, it's also been on my mind ever since I saw it. But I'm not sure it would look good with a wenge neck, I will have many months to make that decision.
Do I remember correctly that you have the amazing transparent blue Super J?

Your mistaken. No way a paint job like that is a $2500 upcharge. Not gonna believe that until I see proof.

All CAD prices as of some time ago. And definitely rough.

An Xtop is roughly $1000
A paint job can be $250
A contrast layer is $250
A wenge neck is $500
Matching blocks hmmmm $500ish?!?

Again don’t take my word for it as these prices where we’ll over a year old but the bottom line is no Dingwall paintjob cont $2500...

If we are talking $2500 for “a paint job” that is grossly incorrect but as we both have suggested, you throw in an x top and contrast layer and you’ve over doubled the cost of the “paint job”.

Now if you just through that paint job on a natural top you’d be well under a grand..... no idea how that would look but I can’t imagine bad.

I did undervalue the paint job itself though. That is the most varying factor on the price sheet.

Totally, agree it's additional options, the original poster may have got their wires crossed with whoever was dealing with the order on the difference between 'finish' and 'paint options'
I've kept all the Canadian price lists going from 2013 to 2018 so I have a quick guide to how much each option cost.
Looking back on the old ones when you're doing a new order is a bit depressing though haha.

Yeah. I know..... I was in line a few years back to do a build and then it just didn’t seem like a good financial choice at the time so I was able to drop out of que to only hop back in line a year later which cost me about $800 on the increased price....... smrt

I am curious to see if the trend will continue again this year.

I talked with the shop and then Sheldon a while back to establish a replacement value for the Rastaburst. This was closing in on 2 years ago. It was in the $12,000-$14,000 (US) range. So yeah... that's probably about right.

...and that's why I've been playing the NG/Combustion range lately.
