This will be my second trip to NAMM on a vendor's "guest pass." I make it a practice to stay out of the way of the vendor reps (like Sheldon and Co) because they, understandably, are busy interfacing with dealers and potential dealers, and generally don't have time to chit chat with "guests." But it is the absolute Mecca of everything in the world of music. It would take two full days just to see all the vendor exhibits/products. Plus there is a huge party on Friday night at the Hilton with plenty of live music. Last time I just stood at the side of the stage and watched Victor Wooten jam with a bunch of world class musicians at the Friday night festivities. BTW, I will take photos of all the new Dingwall basses and post here upon my return.

Hello Dingwall Owners. I am new to Dingwall and I had a question about the NG2. Are these good basses both in playability and construction? These are built offshore?

Are both the Combustion and NG models made in China? This isn't a slight toward the import instruments at all. I was just curious.

Yes, and yes. The NG and Combustion models are manufactured in China and go through quality control and setup at the shop in Canada.

NAMM members can give a ticket to anyone. If I were attending this year I would have gladly done so and did do so last year. I found the whole Show a very exciting thing to do but felt that we couldn't go this year.

I am planning to give summer NAMM (a smaller show) a shot this year to see if it is a bit less insane and of course I enjoy seeing new music gear as much as any enthusiast.

SO MUCH music happening. And last year there were no slouch acts on any of the stages - all I saw were great and some were jaw-dropping amazing - even on the smaller stages.

I got tired of having to pry the control cover off of my NG so I spent a few minutes smoothing its edges with a tool that I usually use for removing dead skin. Now it fits fine and will fall off when I want it to. I just couldn't live without the upper-mid-high presence of the neck pickup in series - it's going to stay that way. I ended up raising the A and D strings a bit and lowering the treble side of the neck pickup a tad and achieved a more even response. It sounds so tasty with the bass control on its detent and the mid and high-mid boosted just a little.

For those new here: The labels "Combustion" and "NG" are kind of confusing. A "NG" is a Nolly Getgood signature model Combustion. It is actually a subset of the Combustion line, which are all made in China, but set up in Canada. But now Dingwall is further separating the NG Signature Combustion and the Combustion lines. The Combustion debuting at NAMM this year, unlike the "NG," has a quilted maple top, and a pau ferro fingerboard. I think this is a good move. What say you elders?

I’ve created my own special edition Super P by covering up finger nail swirls on my pickguard with the Darkglass logo sticker that came in the box with the Alpha Omega Ultra.

So dark! Such roar!

I do think they are separated a bit further for sure.

-Body wood has been defined from my understanding. Meaning I don’t think you will see combustion’s with an alder body moving forward.

-The quilted tops are a new option IIRC since last NAMM but have not made it to the masses in North America. The whale pool burst from last year was the closest thing to it again IIRC. So..... finished do provide distinguishable differences between the 2 models.

-The obvious one.... pre amps.

The NG is ALWAYS. spec’d maple fretboard. The Combustion’s have had the option of maple and Pao ferro since CITES hit on rosewood. again..... IIRC.

I think that about sums it up.
The major cost difference is in the preamp. Body wood also used to affect cost on a combustion if I believe. And then paint.... a natural combustion would be cheaper at least from what I’ve seen.

Aside from the obvious 2x vs 3x I think that about sums it up.

It may have been the whalepool I was thinking of that someone here has. The quilts were introduced last year though. They might not have started appearing yet as you say.

Could you tell us how this made the response more even, what you didn't like and how this helped? I'd like to better dial in the G on my SJ5XXX, and the D +G on my SPJ5, this could save me some trial and error.

As far as I know none have shipped. I do have some on order. I have only seen the pics Sheldon posted on facebook. But really, the standard Indigoburst and Whalepool burst I thought were awesome. I actually like the ash body look.

Before the above mentioned adjustments, notes on the D string were louder than those played with the same attack on adjacent strings (A & G). What I did worked to make it sound more even... I don't know how to state it more clearly.

Actually that helps a lot, my G and the DG actually have the opposite problem, so I can adjust based upon that!
