If you're willing to solder up a switch (or have someone do it for you) you can have almost anything you like. I posted wiring diagrams for a couple of options a while back. The dingwall switches bake that stuff in, so you don't really have choices at that point.

So if I want the classic "jazz" mode (Bridge and Neck), I can't have Middle solo? That's not a sacrifice I'm willing to make. Too bad. Thanks for the help!

Edit: what about Bridge and Middle in parallel instead of Bridge solo; is that possible without messing up the other settings?

I'm clearly not an expert, but for what you want, you might need a 6 way rotary, unless a 5 would do it.

The 'maiden' public use of the fretless Combustion is next Saturday. I rehearsed with everyone last week and there was not a single critical comment on my intonation and tuning, which is a good thing. I've played this bass for practice exclusively since mid-December. It's been a lot of work, but I think it's starting to sound decent.

After next Saturday, I'm sending it away...to Mo's out in California. I've already talked with him and while I like the boxwood inlay, it's just not contrasty enough for my eyes. I'm getting blue luminlay lines, dots and side markers put in. He'll then decide the best move for neck coating/leveling and all that and take care of it. I'm also looking to get the action down from where it is now (a solid medium)...

...in the meantime, I've said here before I've been using Stewart Semple's LIT glow powder and the acrylic base he makes. It's purportedly the glowiest glow substance, and I buy that. I tested it by playing for two plus hours in my music room with no lights (no windows either). It was easily visible throughout. Here it is in daylight in my living room:

I'm also putting luminlay side dots in the NG3 when I get a chance (have it sitting here waiting).

Next up... I'm going to ask Mo to put Graphtech Ghost saddle/pickups on the fretless and the associated preamp and electronics.

They make ABM-style replacement saddles: Ghost Pickups - Bass

And the preamp for the piezos: product-detail

Which will add a 3 way switch (piezo/piezo-magnetic/Magnetic) a second volume with push/pull for mid/low eq settings...and a third 9v battery that will have to be fit somewhere.

You're sharp - I watched the Monkees but never picked up on that! Every time I hear mention of the jeans style of those days, I want to listen to "Bell Bottom Blues" (I don't want to fade away...).

Peter was still wearing it that way many years later, so it may have been more of a quirky affectation. But he was cool and played the bass, so it worked for me! I still do if I find myself wearing a belt.

Looks weird with only 22 frets. Were there other long scales with 22? This is the first one I've seen.

24 was an option at one point v. 22. Then IIRC Sheldon realized it was taking more time and effort to do the finishing on the 22's and the 24 became standard. It was on the option sheet when I built the Rastaburst but when I said I didn't need 24, they said they do 'em all with 24 now.

Sure. They have all kinds of colors but this is the one I went with. Picked it up at a local craft store. There were sharpie brand too but an artist friend of mine thought this would pop better.

They make an extra fine tip too that I’m considering getting to color the dingwall and FDV impressions on the pickup shells, but that’s a scarier prospect than having to spring for a few new knobs.

I used White-Out (A/K/A Liquid Paper) on mine. It worked fine. I figured it would be easy enough to remove with rubbing alcohol if I wanted to remove it. But I haven't wanted to.

My Jazzwall is back from Mo's Shop. Lovin' the Nordy Jazz pickups, Nordy preamp, and medium jumbo frets. I'll get some sound clips up soon. Got my first gig with it on Wednesday. It's a multiscale funk machine.

I have always done this since the first time I picked up a bass in a store as a kid. I looked down at my belt buckle, and looked at that really beautiful bass, and I just moved the belt buckle out of the way. Been doing it ever since, and it's cool to see that Peter did this, as well.

This was a mod. I don't think there are any factory made fretless in Combustion/NG2 line, only Canadian, and there yes, they do make an unlined fretless.
