Thanks, back to the drawing board then. I suspect the inlay would make a refinish either very expensive or impossible.
Speaking of great German basses, if you have a D-Bird 5-string on order and you need something temporary to tide you over until it gets here that will somewhat approximate the vibe, with great tone and playability, albeit monoscale and significantly heavier than the D-Bird, I have this fantastic German specimen available.
Like the D-Bird, it balances very well, and does not have the neck dive issues of the Gibson it was styled after. PM me for info.

Does Dingwall still make older style Super J's(with control plate)? I've looked through the site and all the Super J's I've seen was without the control plate.
Bummer, I really like that old look w/ control plates. Anyways, if someone's thinking of letting go their Super J 5 (PJ or JJ config). Let me know!

They do pop up occasionally. There was a 2006 NAMM SJ that sold through the classifieds here a few months ago.

I just received my new (to me) Super J5 (Thank you John!!!!) and I am trying to get my mind around the electronics package. I am hoping one of you might be able to help me with something?
The bass has the active/passive Glock 3 band along with toggles for series/parallel operation of each of the 3 pickups.
On my Super J4, there is a selector position to run both the bridge and neck pickups in series.
On this bass, the selector position is for neck and bridge in parallel operation.
My question is this: If I want to replicate the "neck and bridge in Series" operation, I assume I select the selector position for neck and bridge pickups parallel, but then do I move the toggle switches for BOTH pickups to the Series position? or just one of them?

The series parallel switches have nothing whatsoever to do with the pickup selector switch. They are independent.
Each series/parallel switch just puts that respective pickup's two coils into series or parallel with one another. Series mode gives a bit of a midrange boost at the expense of bandwidth, and parallel mode gives full bandwidth, with relatively flat response.
A jazz bass runs bridge and neck in parallel, and position 3 gives you that. It will sound more like a jazz bass with the two outer switches down, which is parallel mode.
There is no way with the factory pickup selector switch to get bridge and neck in series unless you rearrange which pickup goes to which position on the pickup selector. I would recommend not thinking about doing that until you play it for a while and decide that you are not happy with the almost infinite options that you already have!

Another future option is to get a d bird switch for different variety.
If I were going to go to the trouble of changing the switch, I would put in a 6-way instead of another 4-way. I think all 6 options in that diagram are useful. Some folks might replace the bridge only option with bridge + neck in series, if they are ok with not being able to sound like Jaco.

Oops - I was looking at it on my phone and didn't zoom in to realize that bridge+middle parallel was on there. I would think I personally could live without that one. Would be interested to hear from those who use it what they use it for. (Position 2 on the D-Bird / NG-3.)I’ve got bad news for you. There are 7 options there so you’ll have to make a choice

Peter, if you search back in this thread a few weeks, you will see info from the two members who had Maurilio ("Mo") Mina of Nordstrand put in a 6-way switch for them. I think it was @Bassheart365 and @husky123 .

The switch is a standard part available from Stew Mac. Sheldon isn't going to get involved in that, at least not at this time. Plenty of other irons in the fire.

Tonight will be my first gig with my NG-3 and I'm very stoked. It's sounded great in rehearsal and I think it will work very well. I will be using my Darkglass Microtubes 900 into a Genzler Magellan 212T as the amp rig.

I know we've had some of this discussion before, but why do people think that if it is in Z2 configuration that it is a Sklar. Especially with barts in it. My bigger question is: Has there ever been a Sklar with anything but a candy coating. I think the answer is no.
