The Z36
The SJ 5
and the warwick thumb 6
And holy crap. It really is hard to pick “the best”. They are just different tools.
The Z3 is hands down the most versatile and no question “my platform” but the
SJ is a slap lightning machine with a gut punch impact..... or a super clean almost acoustic for playing some Bach. Lol.
This new Warwick has some amazing clarity with a monster B And is a lot of fun for tapping with its piano like tone and shorter scale......
My intent is still to resolve to the Z platform when the fretless gets here.

Lauzon has a finishing shop in the basement and could probably do it.
I like a lot of the flashy colours, but aside from my candy apple green Combustion (V1), most of my basses are fairly tame and standard. I do tend to gravitate towards white though.
Yes, I currently have the AB II, ABHS 6, the Frettrax modded NG2, and the Le Fay. And yes, I would keep the FretTrax no matter what, so I will still have a Dingwall if I sold the other two. I played my first gig with my AB "JazzWall" on Wednesday. Like a Fender Jazz on steroids.
You didn’t bro! But, I could definitely relate to being a 19mm man myself. I kept a 4 string around just to have 19mm bass around. I tended to play my first Dingwall (an older school ABII) for heavier songs that were drop tuned or needed a B string. I did notice the difference even though just 1 mm, and I often wished it was 19 as well. But over time, I have really totally forgotten about the 18 vs 19 preference and I don’t even think about it. I think that is entirely because I don’t have 19mm around to remind why I like it! But ignorance of the forgotten is now bliss.....It's literally the only bass I've played since I got it, if not counting four stringers.
And again, it doesn't really annoy me. I'm perfectly content with the bass as it is.The bass is perfectly playable. Sounds and plays amazing. The only reason I brought it up was in the context of a custom order. Picking your ideal specs and all that jazz.

Rob at Vancouver Guitar Finishing could do it. I had them finish the custom bass I built, and it turned out amazing. Check out their instagram, they do incredible work and are great to deal with. Definitely better than shipping to the USA!

Feeling is not as accurate as measuring. If you'll put a ruler on it, you'll find that your strings are 18mm apart.

I have one 5 string Dingwall with Nordstrand split coil pickups for that particular sound.
I have one 5 string Dingwall with Nordstrand single coil pickups for that other particular sound.
I have a fretless Kiesel 5 string for when I want to gliss around the neck...
I should be happy with just those, but... I ordered a Combustion C3 5 string because... well, three pickups is bound to sound different than the other two Dingwalls I already have, right?
I have other basses but they don't get much love these days. I'd be happy to sell them all, frankly.

I hear ya. Life is hectic and recording is the last thing on my priority list unfortunately. I spend such little time with that aspect of music that I’m currently fumbling with trying to pull files from my zoom H2 and break the songs out from rehearsal...... I cant seem to manage that even and it’s taking way more time then it should.
I bought Cubase. Hate it with the stupid elisencers.

I'm planning on recording the sample clips through my Avalon U5 preamp and then straight into my PreSonus mixing board, which has an SD slot for recording purposes. Old school baby!
Oh yeah. Old school SD slot. haha. Now show me a Smartmedia or Memory stick and I'll call that old school. I know what you mean though. I picked up a Tascam DP-24SD for $400. Should make my life simpler.
