Unfortunately I don’t think that would solve the issue I am having.
The differences in pickup placement, and possibly the shell difference, is making me have to adjust my plucking hand techniques, which I’d rather not do since I switch basses from tune to tune.

I see. So, you’d get a pick guard or something to cover the large gaps that would be left?

My best guess would be to perhaps talk to Nordstrand about some customs for it if you really want to go that route

My understanding from speaking with the techs up at the factory, is that the older pickups are no longer available from them.

That is what I’m thinking, yes. Wouldn’t want to ugly up this beauty!

It wouldn’t bother me so much except that all my other basses, SJ4 and the other SJ5, are set up the same, so swapping between them is a no thought required proposition.
If I have to consciously adjust techniques only for this one bass, it’ll end up being neglected, for convenience sake.

Yeah, I can definitely also confirm that a fretless Dingwall is absolutely heavenly!
My immediate reaction upon playing this beautiful Z for two minutes was, "Why would anybody in their right mind want to play a monoscale fretless when they could have this instead?!"
