The B/n in series does have lots of mids... very throaty and present in a metal mix. The "all on" setting on the Ng3 seems is perhaps more sooo but BIGGER! its a monstrous sound often stated as too much for a normal use setting.

Maurillo it the best. He's got one of mine now, probably next in line. So I'm not familiar with the Ghost system. Is your goal to expand your tonal palette? Does it also have midi capability?

The Ghost system CAN do Midi, but in this case I'm not installing that board. There's a piggy-back board that works with the piezo preamp. In my case, I'm looking to capture some of the vibrational 'acoustic' tone of the instrument that I hear when I play it unamplified but I couldn't capture with the magnetic pickups alone.

What I'll get out of this is:
- 3-way switch that allows for:
  • magnetic Dingwall sound (with DG-TC preamp) that will operate as it always has.
  • Piezo system w/it's own preamp as a 'stand alone' with it's operation (volume plus a push/pull tone profile switch).
  • combined magnetic/DG-TC + piezo/pramp...both systems work as they normally would, but together. sort of like a Jazz bass, two volumes so you can blend them together.

The implementation will keep the control set in a very similar foot print. There will be a second toggle added (the 3-way as listed above). The DGTC's bass/treble will end up on a stacked pot, which opens a pot-hole for the piezo volume. We're adding a 'full system bypass' as well. Either the DGTC's original switch or the system bypass will end up on the DGTC's volume as a push/pull.

So the only real visible difference is the added 3-way and the single stacked-knob.
And Mo will probably have time for yours in between this 'stage one' of work on this bass and the 'stage 2' work on the neck. ;)

Oh yeah, some details of the customization that needed to be done at the 'bridge level."
The connects for the bridge pieces didn't fit through the holes in the bridge carriages. Even so, they'd have hung out the bottom, so the clips were snipped and the wires were soldered to the piezo bridge pieces. Also, the bridge plates needed to be drilled out, but but to allow for intonation movement, a single hole wouldn't work...so Mo made larger oval openings for the wires to feed. You'll also note that the bridge pieces are a little taller than the original pieces. This will mean shimming the neck since the G saddle was already all the way down. That's fine since I'd already shimmed a little bit anyway. I'm totally not fussy about shims.

The nordstrands are designed for parallel fret basses, I could buy new pickups at bassdirect though.

There seems to be consenus that the FD-1´s are 2-lead and risky to mod. Regarding the series/paralell business different theories collide, series, paralell and series/paralell.

I was mainly curious. Maybie I have some time this weekend to do some recording, it would be fun to see the responses, I have a feeling it wont make things clearer due to the subjective nature of perception :)

This one was just done locally. A guy who does a fair amount of classical instruments. I dropped off two instruments yesterday at 2pm and they were done this morning. No finish work needed to be done since I've mostly worn through the neck finish on the edges but you'd be hard pressed to figure out it's not original to the bass. The other bass is out west at Mo's (custom) Shop.
