That's pressure dyed ponderosa pine. It's no longer available which is too bad because it was really cool stuff.
WHAAAAT?

I woulda been guessing all day with that one.......

Thank you very much for the info.
Out of curiousity, what is its reason for being no longer available? CITES?

When I saw you were thinking of not keeping it (before you received it) I made a bet with myself that you would be keeping it once you played it. HAHA I won my bet and now owe myself a beer. And you are a winner cause these 6 strings play SO FREAKING GOOD. I have posted before of how unexpected this was to me simply due to my own intimidation of playing a 6, and I am still floored with each one I get through here. Mine is incoming some time this year! - I hope.

I opened the box and within a minute of playing it said to myself "yup, that's it." Never had I had an extended range bass that wasnt fighting me in some way, shape or form. It's just so well designed and executed. Ergonomically, tonally, everything. I'm truly blown away, if you cant tell. This was NOT what I was expecting

So I posted about a week ago saying that I wasn't sure what would come of my 6 string Combustion. I'm pretty sure that I found a forever bass. I honestly could not put the thing down this weekend. It just plays SO nicely and effortlessly it's insane. I swapped the EMG preamp for an Audere simply because I had one lying around and I like the extra mid frequency control, but it definitely didn't need it. Of course, pics or it didn't happen...

I'm curious. Why the two stacked knobs?

that's going to look so cool!

Yeah, I'm really interested to see where Mo takes it. I like that the lines appear to be fairly deep...Those lines will be super visible from the side.

I hope it sounds cool too...this is the bass that has the Piezo bridge & 2nd preamp installed too.

Woo. D-Bird Standard incoming via local freight now! I’m really curious how this thing feels as I’ve become more enamoured of having only four strings some of the time, at least. I’m really curious what the colour-shift is going to look like in person.

congrats!!

personally i think they felt great, and the construction felt almost identical to the early d-bird customs (except the headstock, overall paint job and input jack), and the neck profile felt different

and the color shift can go really dark xD
