The board will be well coated. The first time around it was C/A... this next coating will be a slightly heftier poly based one.

One or two folks running the shop. Have ordered quite a few times - very courteous, very quick, very safely packaged but no discount for larger orders (maybe if you plan on doing 100 at a time but that's not applicable to me).

Yeah, that was the first thing I said too. He's not terribly happy with the original de-fret, which shows how much of a perfectionist he is, because I had a few other players and a dealer handle it and they all said the original job was really well done.

The other thing he mentioned was that he'd gotten the neck really flat and the action down to 2-3/64”...which is fantastic because one of the reasons I did this second round of work stemmed from the fact that I couldn't get the action 'dingwall low' but instead was in the solid 'medium' range...probably twice the height of my other basses...which is fine for building some finger strength but needed to be realistic compared to my other basses.

A pristine AB-1 arrived safely today! So stoked! 7lb-7oz. Passive with FD3's, and a standard tone pot.

And it looks like my favorite strings, DR Pure Blues VW 95-40 are going to fit. The E string just makes the nut.

Going for a hike to give things time to acclimate, then I'll get it set up. Pearl dots, and I'm already thinking Luminlay blue....

I'm going to give the FD3's a good long tryout before I do anything there, if I do anything at all. Series, P tone? We'll see...So far they sound great. And I've got the Super P for P stuff.

Man, I had to wait 9 whole days. It was nerve wracking.

Is it just the skinny neck, or are those frets larger than the usual banjo-size?

To be fair, it's not my first dingwall! I had an ABZ 5 string at one point, but playing chords high on the neck was nigh impossible, which is why I moved it. My Combustion has been such a departure from my usual 6 string experience...and I've tried a bunch! They're usually either too cramped, or too cumbersome. Dingwall nailed it...which is why I'm pondering a fretless, which I play quite often:)

I think it’s just the skinny neck and the bright sunlight in the picture. Tiny frets.

And it set up with ridiculous low, rattle and buzz free action. Even with spanky new strings.

The DR Pure Blue VW set 95-40 worked. The E just made it over the nut. So, it looks like pretty much any longscale strings will be viable. TI flats, tons of round wound options.

I could go lower still but I’ll need to install shorter saddle screws. The DR E and A strings aren’t tapered at the bridge. Honestly, the D & G are about as low as is reasonable for my very light touch.

I’m really pleased with it. I’ve been on the hunt for a really light, four string, AB-1 the past year or so. I looked hard at this one back in January but it sold too quickly. When it popped up again I jumped.

My wife gets home from a business trip today. I’ve got some splaining to do.
