Does anyone know the story with D-Birds on the Dingwall website? The D-Bird link was taking you to the D-Roc limited bass page, but the D-Bird pages were there at /d-bird-standard and /d-bird-custom. Today, those pages are gone, and the menu no longer lists the D-Birds at all.

I suspect Gibson has struck again. On the Strings page, the "D-series" is still listed, but the picture has been sloppily chopped to only show the neck and part of the body.

I think they may just be in the process of renaming the model to D-Roc and changing the body shape to look like the Hellboy limited edition (Dingwall Guitars Announces the D-Roc Rob van der Loo “Hellboy” Limited Edition 5-String Bass), but the D-Roc pages are gone too...

I emailed sales to see what the story is.

Some background - Gibson recently released a video titled "Play Authentic" that basically talked about "protecting their legacy", a.k.a. dropping the legal hammer on manufacturers that they felt were infringing upon trademark design features. So we're assuming that the D-Bird was caught in the fray, which would be a real shame.

I'm going to assume these cease and desists went out in waves, as Maruszczyk Basses has also taken down their T-Bird copy as well, which I think they called the "Phoenix". Ironic, as it's unlikely to rise again. :rage:

Gibson IMHO is the worst brand in the guitar world, they kill every manufacture they buy and refuse to change their own flawed lineup.
They killed the Steinburger brand, yes, they still exist, but they make 3 instruments all low-end and only very recently made them available.

I've done my own setups for years, I've never experienced this before. I've tightened pickups a LOT more than this time. No idea what went wrong, I can only suspect that it was loose from the beginning.

What now? Back to Bass Central since it's basically new? Or try to fix this myself?

A luthier can glue this back in very easily. Please have the luthier send the bill to us and we will pay it.

Fit and finish? Perfect. Killer looks. The ergonomic elements are very well-designed. And again, its weight is very manageable.
