What would be a reasonable price tag for selling my three FD3 (2014) pickups? I have no reference as they are not available to me locally in my currency.
Time to order my first set of replacement strings for my Comb. 5. Reccomendations? Dingwall, Payson, something else? Thanks.
Anybody notice that Mark from the Roots was playing a Dingwall 6 on last nights show backing Natalie Merchant. Don't know what model but it looked like a whalepool blue something or other. Sounded great!!

A little help? Looking to get a Hipshot Xtender Key for my NG-2. Tried searching this thread but it's giving me a huge headache. Is there a direct replacement that I can get from Hipshot? Or do I have to order it from Dingwall? Mine are smoked chrome; a black one would be just fine though.... thanks folks.

They have helped me out in the past, easier to talk to someone on the phone rather than trade emails.
The thing is that I didn't fancy an 18-months wait so I bought one from bassdirect which was pretty much spec'd the way I wanted it to.
Except for these switches which were lacking unfortunately
I would have totally have gotten them otherwise, especially for what they cost.
Now I don't really feel like hacking into the body to add them
Also I must say that I was very happy and impressed with the 4-way selector and I'm afraid with the switches I would have to actuate them when switching, maybe that's unfounded though.
Sure, I understand this - however I'm not saying that any more expensive bass should sound better than a less expensive one just because it's more expensive, but when going up in a builder's range I would certainly expect it.
Like if I ever buy a Z3 I would certainly expect it to be able to do the afterburner sounds and more, but maybe I'm being too optimistic here ?
In any case I understand about MTD too, they are wonderful instruments, I was totally in love with them but they just sound so polite

I think that is a bit unfair.
A Z3 is gonna give a tone pallet of a Z3 spec’d a certain way. An AB will do its own thing..... they are different basses. An NG is spec’d ONE WAY and one way only and that’s for a reason.... so it sounds like a Nolly.
If you want a Canadian made Dingwall to sound like a nolly, use the same woods, the same hardware, the same electronics and even the same finish.
They all play into the sound of the instrument. The Nolly sound is inherently aggressive and balls out because of its spec. It can be tamed down indeed but it’s inherently “angry”
These all sound different from each other in fantastic ways.
Same as the rest I’ve laid hands on.
I’ve never been disappointed with the sound of a Dingwall but ya gotta know a Dingwall, more expensive or not isn’t even designed to sound the same as another Dingwall...
I recent situation put a bass in my hands that was by far the most snarky Dingwall I have ever played. I’ll be able to discuss this bass further in the near future. It is amazing at what it was designed for, which is not the same design as many of my others for different usage.
I don't want my AB to sound the same, being a hand-made bass I don't think even two models with the same spec would sound exactly the same anyway.

Also I never really liked maple necks/fb, or active basses, or solid colors and glossy finishes, so no nolly for me.
Oh and I much prefer the AB body with it's one horn from top to bottom
Totally jealous of the Z bridge though, it just looks so much better.
The main thing is the woods used (say wenge, bubinga limba and what ever else) and the attention to detail.
The thing that sucks is Wenge isn't THAT expensive, I wish it was an option on the Combustions/NG's I like the tactile feel to it and you do hear a little bit of that warm mids come through a little bit more acoustically.

Call me nervous, but my A/C just went out 80% humidity and 85F right now (will probably peak at 94F) I hope my "babies" will be ok

I can tell ya from experience. The combo of the DG and the FDVs is about as aggressive as it gets. DG with Fd3s is quite a bit cleaner.... In my experience.
I think the maple board and alder body play HUGE factors into the tone of the NG.
I’ve been privileged to try darn near every electronics combination and many wood combos in the last 10 years aside from the d bird and I gotta say, Even the “Zebra” bass was not as aggressive as a Nolly. Perhaps it was the wenge board....I don’t know.
Dingwall nickels sound great and have a nice, long life. Only had one string with a little weird lump on it one time and it made no difference in the sound/playing that I could tell.
This is coming from a guy who played stainless for over 30 years.
Make sure they actually listen to you, though. I moved and they shipped my next order to the old address despite me telling them more than once the new address and filling it out on their web order form.

I was never a fan of onboard preamps because, well you can have outboard ones, easier to change, no battery in the instrument, etc.
Do you think I could get closer to the DGTC sound with a DG pedal ?
I'm afraid it's not just the EQ points .. if those are even similar, I didn't check honestly.
I have the Alpha omega Ultra which has a pre-amp in it and it gives it some aggressiveness to the tone, you can even increase the signal strength to the amp (to the point of peaking the signal)
Problem is that pedal is normally $400, I got it for much less.
