I'm the opposite, I started with 4 and picked up 5 and fell in love, I don't over-use the 5th string however, just a sprinkle here, sprinkle there, of course, a good heavy gallop or slide is tons of fun.

Even when playing stuff like Rush or praise, I like the wider profile and a place to rest my thumb for the E and A strings (I perch the thumb on the string above to help mute and get a better more consistent pluck.)

Now I have a six I didn't expect to buy, I don't even know what is on that thing!

We're talking about the opposite 5th string :P

I live on the lowest tuned string, it's the highest tuned string that I just don't use. I prefer sticking to the low end and doing more interesting rhythmic things. As a bass player I'm just not into playing in the higher registers. I don't play that way, and I definitely don't write that way.

So you have it set up with BEAD strings? no G?

Interesting! A lot of the music I cover for fun uses quite a bit of G, the stuff I "write" has just a little bit of G and my praise music is 99% EAD... I sneak the B in sometimes if I'm feeling saucy.

Nothing stopping it getting tuned F# to G :)

If I made a special F# set of strings, the B string would be poly coated... in brown.
