Dingwall Owners Club

That was close. Thanks to the members here for confirming it was a scam. I'm very disappointed because it's really hard to find a Ferrari yellow NG-2 (or NG-3) 5-string for sale anywhere.

I just emailed Dingwall inquiring about the cost of a custom one with Pau Ferro fingerboard. I'm sure others here have custom-ordered from Dingwall before. What's the extra cost of a custom order?
They won't custom an import model, as far as I know. You'd have to step up to at least an ABZ line.

As mentioned. A production bass cannot be custom ordered beyond normal specs. If they allowed custom production basses that would open up a whole new level of administration I bet.

After years of dreaming I finally just got my yellow NG-3. It's pretty much the only one I could still find anywhere except for some website in Russia which did look like a legit music store but I still couldn't bring myself to send that kind of money to honestly. There's probably a few available from Japan on ebay as well but all the Japanese sellers tend to jack up the prices, selling used ones for more than the cost of new elsewhere. Where did you get yours from? And yeah, I've seen those Japanese ones on eBay and they jacked up to the price way too high.

It was the last one on Reverb. From Shome/Lomax I believe. I took some wrangling to get as they don't ship outside of the U.S. and I live on the other side of the world. Had to find a specialist guitar importer to help me make all the necessary arrangements.

I can only imagine how ecstatic you are. I hope I can have your luck eventually too.

And please, if anyone in the Dingwall Club sees a Ferrari yellow (or green--that's my second choice) NG-2/3 5-string on sale anywhere, let me know and I'll be very grateful for the heads up.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but there’s a Dingwall sell/buy group on FarceBook that may be of use to you.

If you cant find one, you could always consider either an AB1 or getting any NG and having it refinished. I haven't looked in a while, but a few years ago I received a quote for around $500 for a complete refinishing.

I have an old Combustion with a dark fb; I am pretty sure it's wenge, though not 100%.

Most likely RW or PF. As far as I'm aware there are no wenge FB NG's out in the world. You should be able to tell at a glance, wenge has a grain with open 'cells' and while it has both light and dark brown grain, it's a much finer variance. Rosewood doesn't have the same voids in the grain and while it has different light/dark they're not the same linear types of variance.

Drew Dedman in Australia had is NG in yellow on the block in the last week or so. I don't know if it's still available but worth a look.

Won't probably happen with an NG. I've not heard them entertaining any custom orders with these, though I wish you luck. If you want to have some options your best bet is to set your scopes on an Afterburner.
