As to your question, I wish I had an answer for you but, alas, I'm in the same damn boat. I was checking out options for my wireless pack, and I got excited about a right angle possibility, until I remembered I have an NG-3. Depression.

I'm going to hit up a custom cable maker and see if it's possible to make a modified R/A plug to fit a recessed jack. I'll let you guys know if I hear anything.

How about this adapter, 1/4" on one end, female RCA on the other? Commercially made cables with male 1/4" on one end and male RCA on the other end are readily available.

I just made a slight modification to my combustion model in lieu of this convo...

first get a hacksaw.....

kidding!!! Do not get a hacksaw!!!

I pulled the jack to take a closer look and here is what the one on mine looks like. They may have changed over the years but I think they are similar.

this one had a locking but behind the jack plate. I unscrewed the jack plate and removed the nut.

You can see the extra thread now exposed....

I threaded the jack plate down to the bass of the shaft and reinstalled it.
after doing so I put the lock but on top of the jack plate.

This, on mine, has now given the clearance, with this EB cable that we were looking for.

Use a socket to reinstall the nut for best results.

edit: there may be a reason why this isn’t optimal but I do not see one. The main con to this set up is the funnel of the jack plate to the input is now null and void but I’ve never been a person to just start jabbing at my instrument in hopes that the cable will slide in anyways sooo......

is that dingwall dirty talk?


If yours is set up the same it’s a 5 minute task.

Were your shims radiused like that or did you do it yourself? Mine were a little less "refined"

Them strings do not tapper at the bridge like Dingwall or Payson strings do.
Get some strings made for a Dingwall bass and that will also lower your string height at the bridge.

I'd be a little concerned it would slip off. You'd have to have better quality RCA connections. Need something like this, only mono would be better, though since this is stereo to stereo I'd think it would work.

I guess the only possible issue would be not getting the jack tight in the plate so you ended up spinning the jack and messing with the wires while reinstalling the nut, telecaster style.

even a tiny dab of lock tite and the locking but may not even be required but in conjugation and it wouldn’t go any where I betcha. It seems very solid. I’ll definitely be leaving it this way as that has always been a pet peeve of mine and honestly keeps me from playing it at times as when sitting I do not want a straight cable coming out of the jack. I hear what your saying though and given gigging situations it may be more of a concern but I think done properly and it’s not

A mono one of those cables is a solid idea ! Agreed that it would seem to hold in place better than the RCA type which I’d be worried that they’d come unplugged
