I've been fortunate to keep my job as it's considered a part of critical manufacturing for medical products. There's times I wish I could not work for a while but I'd rather be able to continue life as much as normal, make money and support my family. I'm actually glad I got out of gigging, life has been less stressful and I've been healthier. I got sick more often from working 40+ hours a week and gigging every weekend.
My fuel consumption is mostly the same, though I'm saving more money from all of us being thoughtful on grocery/necessity spending. I got worried that I bought two Dingwalls right before all of this started, I was getting ready to sell if necessary... Fortunately I've been able to keep both and dream of getting a D Roc![]()
Well...we're sort of in a situation here where the lock down is being taken pretty seriously. If you're not 'essential' you're not supposed to go out. They're saying food shopping every two weeks. Depending on county they've placed orders where based on year of birth (even/odd) you're 'allowed' to go out and do your essential stuff on M/W/F or T/TH/S.
I'm taking it seriously (and many I know) because as you mentioned, holding down a 40 hour a week job and gigging extensively (a few years of ~100 gigs a year wears a body down. I ended up a year ago with a situation where I needed ENT surgery but couldn't do it because a bad case of tour-lung and no rest for so long had ended me in a place where I got viral pneumonia & triggered adult onset asthma symptoms. It's now a year since I successfully was treated, operated upon and all that and about 8 months since I 'recovered' but let me say that anything that aims for the lungs effectively is writing on the wall for me as far as I'm concerned. I have a stockpile of Symbicort (inhaled steroids) and albuterol just in case.
The good news is that I'm now at a month and a week without a gig and that means I've been getting 7-8 hours of sleep daily. Which is returning my system into probably the healthiest it's been in years.
Luckily working from home is do-able...and we're holding to 2+ weeks between shopping and public places. We go out for walks (living in mostly rural suburbia these days) and we took a drive around town a few days back but we're legit not going out.
