I have a Dingwall split-P pickup in my 'parts drawer' that I have pondered putting in my NG-2. Haven't gotten past pondering since I'm quite happy with what I hear from soloing the neck pickup (middle on an NG-3)...

I actually asked Sheldon about a single pickup offering in one of his Facebook live sessions. He implied that there was something along those lines in the pipeline.

Something in the Chinese range that is long scale, single pickup, passive and priced a little lower would be great. If it had a mad sparkly finish so much the better.

I’m wondering if they’re working on a Combi-P if some sort. Either a straight up Super P but made in China, or a medium scale Combustion with the P pickup instead of soapbars. Both are appealing. A factory fretless Combustion is also appealing.

Wood grains are really beautiful visuals to get lost in. The dimension, character, light reflection, texture..... it’s sometimes like reading a map

Yeah, the fist dingwall I saw was either an ad in bass player magazine, or their "voice of god" shootout, and both times I thought the fanned frets sounded like a very interesting concept but damn was this bass ugly :)
Funny when nowadays the AB is one of my all-time favorite bass body.

Oh by the way, for the old farts like me, at more or less the same time there were ads for a boutique bass with a round body and horns which looked like actual horns, any idea what it was called ?
I once saw one on the walls of a rather small NYC music shop in 96 or so ? Just can't remember the name .. they didn't meet much commercial success apparently.

I installed a Hipshot D-Tuner on it yesterday. I’m really not sure why I didn’t do it sooner. I was a bit worried that the TI Flat “E” would get too floppy but it’s still pretty solid.
The only drawback is that the bass was so perfectly balanced that I can actually feel the added weight of the extra mass.

Could anyone compare Dingwall's FD3n to their FDV pickups? Wondering if the FDV would be a worthwhile upgrade or if it would be more of a sideways move. I've noticed the imports come with FD3n while the higher end Canadian models seem to come with the FDV generally. And where do the super fatties fit into the picture?

it’s a sideways alternative. Different flavour of goodness. Simply put, I’d say the FD3s are more clean, clinical, transparent where as the FDVs add some mid girtg and voice. That’s not to say the FD3s are lacking anything it’s just a slightly different voice. Edit: worth mentioning that the FDVs are perhaps more “up front” if that makes sense

an example: I heard a passive Z3 recently and thought it would be better suited to be loaded with FD3s or super fatties. It sounds glorious but for that bass it just seemed an alternate voicing could have suited it slightly better.

the SF2s come loaded in the LS model and are a valid option still depending on what your build goal is. My understanding is they offer a bump to the lows and highs. I haven’t experienced the 2s, only the first gen but found great love for them, especially when trying to approach a more vintagy kind of vibe. I think having a mid control is a great option to utilize when harnessing them.
