Just got notice from Chad at The Bass Shop that my Super J is going into production soon. He had me confirm the specs on a sheet from Dingwall. Very exciting. Sooner than I expected and given that mine is a solid finish I'm guessing (hoping) that it beats the 18-month build time estimate.

Our .145T would solve your issue imho. It’s designed for drop A.
I get that some players might not like the feel of larger gauge strings under the fingers.
Our .145T does not feel that much bigger under the fingers. Matter of fact I was using one for a while tuned up to B.

I agree with this. I've used the Payson .145T on my NG3 4-string for drop A tuning. Works fine. Not quite as much tension as I prefer, but no issues with note definition.

I know. It sucks. I could have saved some money when I bought my Carl Thompson by having it sent to a receiving company in Blaine, WA. Then cross to pick it up myself. Instead I had to pay the full duty, tax, + courier brokerage, miscellaneous fees, etc. Almost $1800.

I knew I would receive a bill; I always get charged. I just didn’t expect it to be that high.

I found a Pickup Set which quoted "Basses delivered between 2009 - December 1st, 2017 are not suitable for the 3-piece pickup kit setup due to the pickup wiring"
Can anybody explain why there is a problem with the pickup wiring?
I think I have a 2016 Dingwall and added a Neck Pickup from a 2019 NG3, the NP is a bit quieter, but I can't notice other Things.

We currently have the .145T and .130T. Nothing between that.

From my experience a bad string sounds rattly, like it’s playing through a mild distortion pedal.

You can always check for a twist in the string introduced during your tech’s set up: loosen string, pull the coiled string off the tuner post, it should remain pointing down. If it tries to point sideways or up, you gotta twist in the string. That will make the string sound dead.

You can reorientate the string by putting it back in the tuner post and recrimping the break angle over the saddle.

I thought about that too yesterday, after posting that. My tech is excellent but it's not every day you see a Dingwall. I'll make sure the string is indeed oriented correctly and go from there.

It was sent to Kyle from Bad Wolves first, then was with me for a month or two, then Jacob from Intervals picked it up, then it got sent to Kelly from Buckcherry, then Patrick Hunter wound up with it...

It may FINALLY be home in Canada now

I dreamt about a Dingwall last night....

I picked It up off a multi hanger Kinda like a bass tree. My first impression was....hmmmm. Weird .

oh neat. It’s a Super J!!! But.... wait a minute. ITS HEADLESS!!! Woah! That’s cool. I think I’m digging the colour. Weirdly enough. Vibrant metal flake YELLOW. Like not sports car yellow but.... well maybe corvette yellow... maybe. Maybe a bit more vibrant then that yet.
So metal flake yellow, with ,,,, a white pearloid pick guard. Hmmmm. Ok. Perhaps.


Wait though, there is still something else off about this Dingwall. it’s headless. It’s got this crazy paint job I have not seen before. OH! It’s only got 12 frets!!!! It’s super compact! It’s one of those travel bass thingys. Ummmm.... I don’t think so.

Oh, here’s the price tag! $8k!!!!!!
Yeah... nope. Where are the other 10 frets???

well that’s official. I’ve played one of those “pocket” basses (At least in my dream) and it’s not for me. I don’t see Dingwall going this route

20” B string anyone? Best B in the business??? Hahahah.

I do remember thinking the headless bridge hardware was cool AF though.
Dang it.

Be careful with Blaine because you can get hit with WA tax on the reverbs etc.
There is a way around this.

Also with Fed Ex and UPS there is a way to NOT pay their crazy broker fees by self clearing....its not a hard thing to do but UPS/FX won't always be helpful.

For cheaper items sometimes(!) the border agents will wave the Canadian taxes too.
If you want any info on how to self clear let me know

I didn't have a dream about it but I kid you not I was thinking of a short scale Dingwall yesterday. Everyone does short scales these days and it seemed fitting for the trend at least. Not sure who'd buy one though

I could see a 35” headless being desirable to myself but not the one I dreamt about.
