my understanding is that supers stopped having time chambers around the end of the walnut era and instead are thinner now to the same weight effect.

Bass Direct could do with some proof reading as they often state contradictory or outdated information.
Super J used to be chambered back when they had the "classic" pickguard and steel plate, and the narrower Super Fatty pickups. I believe that all changed at - or around - the same time.

Speaking of Super J, I just received custom Nordstrand Big Blades for my fretless. This is a 6 string pickup (not sure a 5 in the same shell would be wide enough). Note they cannot do Zen Blades in Dingwall shells - that was my initial request.

Hello guys, this is my Afterburner, i just love it, best bass i ever had,
Now, time has come to change strings... I always used Daddario and i'm used to them, just don't know which ones could fit it, there are the EXL170-5 which are long scale, and then the EXL170-5SL Super long scale.
I just see no point in paying extra for the SL if the long scale are going to fit...

Any advice would be welcomed,

I don’t find that too hard to be honest. I think body wood and pick up selection can be more tricky. Picking an X top however can be torture for me.

anyone ever see a solid paint burst? fulfill a couple desires @been_effected

Standard D'Addarios will not feel or sound the same on a multi scale bass as they do on a standard scale bass. The lower strings, if long enough, will be quite stiff feeling. Payson, Pyramid, Sansone, Newtone and other brands have multi scale offerings. The key is to look for strings designed for multi scale 34"-37".

Dingwall strings are made by D'Addario so should feel familiar to you. They are also designed to have optimum tone and tension when installed on a 34" - 37" multi scale bass.

Thanks Sheldon, i always prefer to buy as locally as i can, and here in Spain doesn't seem to find any multiscale strings, there is always Thomann, just checked and they have the Dingwalls.
A shame the shipping fee for them is almost half the cost of the strings, and for free shipping minimun is €200... can't win them all i guess.

I should redo the wiring as the volume pot sometimes malfunctions and cuts off the sound.
But what I've heard so far (at home through Neural DSP plugins and headphones) is rather promising. Definitely less agressive than FD3 (which I thought didn't suit the fretless very well) - could have tried FDV but the unique look of those appealed to me. I should add they are the clean & clear variant - I may have gone with the warm & wolly (or Alnico 3 big singles) if we didn't have the series setting to beefen things up.

You could buy a bulk order then sell a few sets locally to offset the cost or find a few other dingwall players in your part of the world and split an order?
