the preamp is the main difference.

woods are another one.
NG wood spec:
Alder body
Maple/maple neck.

combustion wood spec:
Ash body
Maple/maple or maple/pao ferro option.

Finish’s are high gloss with different options on the combustion’s
Finishes on the NG are Matt or gloss solid colours

the bodies and necks all have the same dimensional specs

Turns out we're all born in 1970. My 50th year bass was this one:

Yep. Some of the Combustions have quilited maple tops too. If you're looking at any of the three pickup options, they may also have different switching schemes. The necks on my Combustion and my NG have the same profiles and dimensions.

Being a bit of a hoarder, I added three this year. None were Dingwalls. But, in 2019, I added two Dingwalls to my collection - the Super P being an absolute steal that popped up after I was already paying on a D-Roc. The D-Roc, by the way, is simply amazing. The ultimate bass for a rock band.

Edit: Technically I added 5 basses in 2020. I forgot about two G&L's that live with me but are owned by my father. About half my collection is thanks to him.

-The P was just because I wanted it and wanted to have a P back in the house. A few others along the way have been less that and more work-specific driven or opportunities that I couldn't pass up.

-The NG was purchased when I realized I couldn't gig really gig the Rastaburst the way I'd been doing anymore. I needed a Dingwall that sounded great, had the roughly the same feel and attributes but could stand the ravages of the road without me fearing damage or wear.

-The Combustion (now fretless) was offered by a friend literally across town...for friend price. Well under $1K. Theoretically it was a 'road backup' but I didn't really need a second on the road since the NG was just so damn hardy and I never had a need for the Combustion...so I did stuff to it.

-The 1993 Voodoo Prima came from Saskatoon, the previous owner I think had some financial issues at the time (though he's got plenty of nice Dingwalls again now)...and at $2k delivered in a Protek Contego I couldn't resist. It was wired as a passive J bass since the preamp had died. Sheldon kindly made a pair of FD3's to size given the pickup size are not standard 5-string Dingwall size, though I have the original unworking preamp and pickups set aside. It now has an Aguilar OBP-2 in place with a stacked treble/bass control since I wanted any mods to be reversible. I'll probably get the frets redone with smaller wire and while I'm at it make sure the FB is really true sometime this year.

-The Steinberger is the only parallel fret bass I've bought since 2005. I specifically bought it so I didn't have to check or gate-check a bass for any air travel. It works brilliantly for that purpose and fits in it's gigbag in an overhead compartment...and is super easy to throw over a shoulder in an airport, shuttle bus, etc. It has some QC issues that I need to sort out and just haven't gotten around to it.

-The 1993 Fender Jazz bass was the first 'new' bass I ever bought. I lived on borrowed Fenders, an old Ibanez Roadstar, etc. through the 1980's and by the early 90's was playing more widely in larger atlantic seaboard cities, rustbelt and into Canada. I really keep it for sentimental reasons. And have sold off all other basses I used from about 1984 through 2005.

Thanks fellas! Found some good videos doing a comparison, as well as some older threads - you also had good information in your responses there as well!

Now I just need to decide!

Sadly, I have not. I just haven't pulled out my interface rig & set up. Which is probably a bit stupid, given that I'm home 24/7 these days...but haven't been playing in the music room. I've been free-ranging all over the house unplugged instead. I'll put it back on my list.

Finally got my neutrik jack replaced. Easy, peasy.

Gotta love the Dingwall compartment shielding!

FWIW, if you ever have a neutrik jack start to go bad (intermittent sound interruption), place two plastic bread loaf fasteners on to your cable plug. I've been operating that way for a few weeks before replacing the jack.

Edit: Gave my Treble/Bass pot a DeoxIT D100L bath (3-times) while I had the lid open. Nice not having a scratchy pot again!

I found GHS Heavy (70-140). They are affordable, the gauge is ok but the winding length might be a little short. I's stated to be 37.25, while the D-Roc low string is 36.25 but I don't know if the winding length is calculated from ball end or past the wrapped part.
