I now just need to rustle up a fistful of dollars before the end of the year to reserve a spot in line for the last bass I'll ever buy (a custom ABII-6-3x). Seriously--whether natural causes or my wife, it'll be the last. Blaze of glory and all that....
So, random question as I ponder my next Dingwall purchase. Whats the deal with the older square pickups? Do they sound the same/have the same specs? I'm assuming since they look significantly wider a new FD3 pickup wouldnt fit the routes?

Do you have a link?Well.... I popped out in 1970 also, so here is one of my Dingwalls as well.... bought after several phone calls, emails, text messages from one of the best people formerly on TB, Mr. John Fox Bass himself. He even compared different Berg cabs for us to hear, and when I asked him how they compared to the F112, he made another video just for me, which he later posted on YouTube.

Anyone knows what standard string gauge the NG3 is delivered with? Is it 45–55-80-100-130 or 45-65-85 105-130?
