Same as mine in the same year. I don't play it much anymore, but every time I contemplate selling it, I figure I'll never be able to get one back for that price and the money is already spent.

i did sell mine, and have regretted it since. The new owner knows to contact me if he ever decides to resell.

Thanks man, it came that way and never occurred to me. Will a standard Switchcraft nut fit in that cup?

perhaps contact dingwall

Nice early Afterburner 2...Price is also about what I'd expect. Not a bad one.

agreed. It’s got a few nicks and songs but overall nice instrument for the price.

At the B string on the bridge. I don't ever remember a little bump-out there.

that’s kind of what I was referring too. A few of curves and lines make this thing look DEFINITELY pre CNC! Some handwork involved on it for sure.

Concur. There's no nut for the jack...they actually screw onto the socket-plate. But definitely missing the two screws that should anchor the plate to the wood.

The earliest of the AB2's are mahogany/bubinga and the later ones are walnut bodied. The bubinga often was pomele (figured) but there's been some unfigured ones too...I'd think that's what this one is. That little bump down by it's tailbone is something I don't know that I've seen before...this one must be one of the first. The edge radius also appears softer than most.
Sorry for the confusion. I had removed the 2 anchor screws and back plate to see what was up...I have the two screws. So the socket and jacket in theory could pop out and maybe turn the socket enough to tighten everything up? The socket is tight and didn’t seem to want to budge.

Yes. The plate will thread on the shaft.
Here is a link to when I pulled one of them apart. You can see the lock nut on this one.

I had sold one a couple years ago and I saw it for sale on Reverb for $1000+ more than I sold it to him. I was upset he didn't call me, though at the time I couldn't afford to buy it back - not at that price. :rollno:

I'm consoled by the fact that my Super PJ-4 is likely worth twice what I paid for it.

The cost to build a Rastaburst replica right now would be north of 14,000 now and that’s not counting the options that are no longer available. It’s basically a Z meets Prima.

Honestly, if I could, I'd SO replace all of my current Dingwalls with 3 Prima Artists and be done with it. My PA gets so much of my play time. Just add on a 5 string 3x and a 6 string 2x and I'd be done. But, the Z's don't feel too far off really, so, I'm going at it from that angle instead... one my wallet can mostly agree with.

I’m trying fretless 6 in the next few months or so... not a Dingwall... and if it goes well that would be my next move. Have to figure out if I can make chords work, etc. then it’s just a matter of either getting one built or doing another conversion.

Nice! I keep my Pedulla for my fretless kicks, but I'm not a fancy player or anything. Usually at most double-stops, not full chord voices. I'd say just get an NG/Combustion and do another conversion, but, it sounds like that was painful, even though it did turn out well in the end.

Since my wife hadn't been gigging(pandemic) I got a very inexpensive “crapstudio bundle” some months back. Turned out she was really happy with the basic app “vocal stacking” she was using on her iPhone instead so it’s been sitting for months. Tonight I plugged that tiny little converter into the computer and noodled around dry with a canned drum loop. I’ll probably try to search around for a little compression if I try this again lol!
