Curious if this is the front pickup mock P tone on the NG, I listened to this once when it came out but it sounded like it to me. That position gets a lot more love on my NG these days.

Curious if this is the front pickup mock P tone on the NG, I listened to this once when it came out but it sounded like it to me. That position gets a lot more love on my NG these days.
I’m pretty certain I wasn’t the first and same for the neck wood combo but they sure seemed like good ideas at the time!! HehehCheers guys

For those who have requested samples of Dingwalls being played without distortion and in more conventional styles. Two links to a tv show where we played not so long ago, both times front pickup only and if I remember correctly switched to parallel.
And two albums I played on, all Dingwall with lots of different pickup settings.
First album is blues/rock, second album more poppy edgy.
Oh yeah, I’ve got an AB1 five string, maple neck wenge fretboard, three FDV pickups and the three parallel/series switches plus a Glockenklang preamp.

I've never played ska in a band. I think it would be really fun. One of my favourite formative years memories is going to see Canadian ska band King Apparatus live every time they passed through town. Bass player Mitch Girio was playing a fretless Stingray 5 and I don't think it's a coincidence that that was my first 5-string.

Hey guys! I bought a used V1 Combustion on Craiglist about 6 months ago and still haven't seen it due to Covid reasons. It looks I may finally get my hands on it in the next month and I've been reading A LOT on pickups, B-boosters, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions on what aftermarket pickups for a 5 string with the EMG shape would drop in nicely? I'm most interested in getting that modern aggressive tone out of this guy.
Also, I've seen many of these V1's with pick guards. Mine did not come with one. Any idea where one of those can be acquired that fits the old layout and and pickup shape. I reached out to Dingwall directly about a B-Booster and pick guard but have not heard anything back yet. Any guidance would be great. I'm really looking forward to finally being able to join the club!!!

Soloing the (series-wired) neck pickup is the voice of my NG-2. Talk about a Pbass tone with attitude...

yeah, I’m sure I’m getting it. I had some friends in another state (where it was for sale) pick it up. I’ve just been waiting to see them until we’re vaccinated - which I was last weekend. I’m not in any real hurry/need to get my hands on it. Like most people here, I have no shortage of basses. GAS has not been kind to me. Lol.
A “b-booster” was a retrofit part that Sheldon released for the V1 combustion’s to help increase the output on the b string as they were noticeably quieter than the rest. It became standard kit on V2 forward.

No pickguard, but open screws, or original no pickguard (in which case, in my case, especially if it was Candy Tangerine, I would not put one on)?
Ahh, well, I hope you do get your Dingwall. See, you never got it yet, so you don't know the feeling when you already have had it, played it, and can't play it no more, yet.. See, mine is currently on the lift (my dining room table) for all my general repairs I'm doing right now, my previous pics will explain, I think you will like them. Gosh, I don't think it's just Sheldon's creations that had low B problems, I made a permanent BEAD 4 string (Ok, it's not a Dingwall, its a 'Red-Subb' and there is no forum here for Red-Subbers, so you can make fun of me now), multiscale, fan-fret, and I put the EMG35-JCS's in it as well and, lets just say, Im still working on that low B sound. Its tough, and I got plenty of firepower here in my play room. TC 500 watt head and brand new Hartke HyDrive 2x10 cab. Oh, and welcome to the MOST EXCLUSIVE club on TB, the Dingwalls club!

Crap! I just sold one that had the PG. I can possibly reach out to it’s new owner and see if he’d be willing to make a stencil of it. Then you could get a few reputable PG makers to make you one up. You won’t find one stocked anywhere.
You could talk to dingwall about some of the FD3s made in those shells or maybe Nordstrand?
that’s said maybe the newer EMG Xs might do you ok.

From the outside it seems like that but it all really kind of runs together. Some of the better of the 2nd & Third are still playing. It's always been a music style that sort of bubbles under the surface and occasionally breaks into the main. Guys like Madness and Bad Manners, etc. still occasionally show up, guys like the Toasters never went away. My second real time being in a band that had some road success & recording, etc. was a Moon Records signed act in the mid-90's. We got involved before it had become a big thing, which made it a fun ride for a few years while the public 'discovered' what was going on. Had a great time on the road with a lot of those 90's Ska/Funk/Punk bands too...though I was always partial to the roots ska of that era and of course the original 1960's stuff.
We just had the anniversary of this show, which means a lot to me...The first time we met and played with the original Skatalites (when there was still a really appreciable number of original members). This recording is still in rotation for me and a number of people who were involved:
