Nope. I can't talk you out of buying an ABZ5.

My first Dingwall was a passive Afterburner. Go for the ABZ. I'll be surprised if you find anything not to like about it.

Just got some glamour shots back from a recent wedding gig and there was one that FINALLY captured what the pickguard looks like on my Super J. I’m not sure why that guard is so hard to photograph accurately but this shot nails it.

That sounds odd but could be a fairly easy fix. IIRC there could be a chunky of tubing around the screws under the pick up. If you really cannot compress enough to get your pick ups as low as required, I’d think you could trim that tubing down a bit to allow your pick ups to recess further into the cavity.

That assumes I will have to remove the pickups I guess. I am not very familiar with those kind of things so maybe best left alone as annoying as it may be.

Two screws each. You don't have to disconnect the pickups' wiring to do this.

It doesn’t get much easier than this. If you cut too much tubing off, you can put some back.

Measure how much you need to lower the pickup to get to spec, cut a little less than that off the tubing, and test. Once you have the first pickup done, you’ll fly through the next two. It’s squishy stuff, so you have room for error.

There should be an Allen wrench in your tool kit for adjusting pickup height.

Taking the strings off is the first step.

it really is that easy.

1. Remove strings
2. Back the 2 height adjustment pick up screws all the way out
3. Lift pick up
4. Remove tubing
5. Cut tubing an appropriate amount.
6.reverse steps 5-1.

Evening all, what size Allen key fits the neck bolts on the ABs? I can't seen to get a tight enough fit to avoid damaging the bolt sockets. Cheers.

Man, playing with other people....COVID killed a budding music project at the start and I just can't seem to get my schedule to work well with 2 other friends that have been "scouting me" at this time. I feel like if this is the case for awhile; I have to get my project studio half of my music room back in better working order - I created a SNAFFU when I thought I would add patch bays and redo a ton of routing early this year.

Wow! Those are some beautiful basses. The green one in the middle is stunning. And I know this is a Dingwall thread, but I love that Bongo 6. Did anybody else notice that EBMM just announced a fanned fret guitar? Interesting...

I didn’t know that! I hope they do it better then many of the other “main stream” brands. My experiences with EBMM have all been positive. I have a Stingray special 5HH as well and it really sounds and plays glorious.

The bongo sounds amazing and the neck plays very nicely. It’s heavy and not the most ergonomic by any means but it’s still quite a gem. I think them and the spectors are very complimentary flavours to the dingwalls.

The guys in Omnific think so too with the bongos. They are a band that is really unique in the fact you can actually hear when they are playing a bongo vs a Dingwall on their recordings for the most part as they do use both basses for different parts.

it’s definitely hurt a lot for the musician. I feel bad for those so much more invested as a musician that have basically had dreams crushed vs a working shuck like myself(dreams crushed long ago lol) .

Hopefully you get it all set up the way you want and can push in the right direction. I didn’t push hard in any group type direction for a while and of course, nothing happened but YouTube. I had to take a run at this again NO MATTER WHAT, as I’ve got a long time passion for the project(it feels like home) and if we didn’t just do it now. It’s probably longer to never.
No matter what becomes of it at least I’ll know I tried. It is feeling right though so far.
Good luck on your end. Perhaps something new will inspire a new direction for ya.

We’re so spoiled by how much the Dingwall crew has tailored the multiscale fretboard into the full design of their instruments. I see stuff like that, and it’s so noticeable how they’ve just slapped a multiscale board onto an existing design and did minimal work to tie it all together. The headstock is where it shows the most to me.

Kudos to EBMM for doing it a bit better than some of the other multiscale options with the gross fretboard ending near the headstock, but I’m still not too impressed.
