Just one issue…the NG3 has the 3x switch, and there is no middle solo position on that. You need a six-way or D-Roc switch for that.

HOWEVER, I would just about guarantee that you’ll find one or more selections on the 3x switch that you will love, and you can further tweak it with the DG preamp.

Funnily enough I’ve also ordered the D-Roc - managed to find a 5 string version.

Anyone that’s had experience with the D-Roc and the NG-3, which did you prefer? Obviously the D-Roc has a more aesthetically pleasing design (imho) but the NG-3 seems slightly more advanced, with the preamp settings and the ability to switch passive/active.

I might just end up keeping both tbh.

I have both, and love both. The D-Roc has a delightful simplicity to it, but with some of my favorite pickup selections in its four selections, which is a big factor in why I got a custom setup on my six-way switch that I still need to install into my NG3. Gotta have that middle solo and all three as two of my selections. That said, the NG3 also has some great tones, as well as the preamp for some tone shaping, and I may even be more comfortable playing my NG3 six-string than the D-Roc…but then the D-Roc is so lightweight and has PERFECT balance.

It’s a damn hard choice.

Lord, but I would buy a six-string D-Roc in a heartbeat, active or passive.

Back from last night's gig ( the 3rd outing for the D-roc 5 string ).
I'm now 100% comfortable with it and to be honest it's I really think it's improving my playing due to the lovely playing position and tonal evenness across the fretboard.
Also gotta say that it utterly rocks with my Genz Benz rig ( and some Darkglass Pedals, but we knew that right LOL ).

I did have it customized which is an additional $20, but i wanted to get access to the neck pickup in my Droc while retaining access to the middle. It comes with wiring instructions.

I went with

bridge
bridge/middle parallel
middle
middle/neck parallel
neck/bridge parallel
neck

It should arrive tomorrow so I'm looking forward to installing it.

Another owner here with an NG3 and DBird (pre DRoc). Both 4 strings.

The DBird is a killer bass and the best balanced instrument I've experienced when playing with a strap. The tones are awesome and it's all passive which I enjoy. I don't miss having a preamp on that bass. I find all of the pickup settings useful aside from the all pickups on. It's just a bit too much signal... (Like blowing out your birthday candles with a firehose!) The nut width is wider and feels more like a P bass than the NG3.

The NG3 I bought used and had the DBird/DRoc switch installed so I have the same pickup selections as the DBird but with the DG preamp. I tend to favor the middle pickup on either bass, but use the "Musicman" and bridge positions far more on the NG3. I use the DG preamp about half of the time. It's very powerful though I tend to just turn it on but leave it flat.

Between these two basses, I play the NG3 far more. Why? It's overall much more comfortable for me to play with the smaller nut width and I prefer how it positions on my body since it has an upper horn. The tone selections are similar but having a preamp gives it the edge with flexibility.

That said, I tend to play my Combustion 5 the most. It's an older one with the rectangular pickups and I really fell in love with that tone. It's my most versatile among the three as it can get aggressive but can lay back and work for non heavy/rock styles of music. Not that you can't use an NG for lighter genres, but I'd go for the Combustion first.

Another successful outing for the NG3 last night. I still can't believe how good this bass sounds for reggae. The headliner bassist was kind of tripping on it, he asked what kind of flats I was using to get my tone. The look he gave me when I said they were Dingwall Rounds..

We opened for Angelo Moore's side project last night - Dr Madd Vibe - quite a bit different from Fishbone, lolol. Not many folks rock a theremin like he does.

Awesome. So what actually drew me to the NG-3 was the clear and powerful tone that you seem to get, so it’s encouraging to hear this.

I am also interested particularly in worship gospel. How have you got it setup for that? In worship gospel, it’s important to have smoothness and warmness, and I know the NG-3 is known for its power and aggressiveness, but it seemed like some tweaking, maybe a custom pickup here or there could make it just as enjoyable, smooth and velvety for worship.

Worship is my favourite and I would love to hear people’s experiences with the NG-3 in this particular setting.

I’d guess you may like the Jazz setting. N/B. Roll the high mids down a bit and go. Smooth and powerful.

I wasn't planning on looking for a new home for it until the new four-string AB-3X lands in December, but decided what the hey, I can 'squeak by' playing my Supers. I got to make someone very happy with a nicely modified first Dingwall.

I guess I should clarify, it's not the jack itself, but the way they recessed it. Damn near impossible to use a right angle cable...

Not that it completely addresses the issue, but worth noting that the right angle Neutrik Silent plugs do work with the Combustion recessed jacks:

Agree - @bando I play praise regularly with a 6 way switch and play the Neck/Bridge parallel (with a slight bass bump and high mids rolled off like Nate mentioned) or bridge/middle series.

Very cool writing style. I can hear Lamb of God and Tool primarily. a bit of COC and Radio head mixed in there amongst other things.

I’d have to guess you pull influence from the Omnific. You’ve got some great riffage that is very reminiscent of them when you get to slapping and such.

in honesty, I struggled with the vocals…. BUT, I like your vocalist Writing style. I feel like the creativity is in the right place just the delivery is off. I could hear more Randy Blithe when appropriate and Maynard James Keenan in contrast elsewhere.

I feel much of the vocals need a more snarly/gritty aggression and just more emotion throughout. He’s got the idea just needs to embrace the delivery. More passion or textured dynamic maybe(?)
I think your vocalist can get there and when he does it’s gonna be very cool. That’s just what my ears wanted when listening and meant only with constructive intent.

All in all, I’d love to listen to this album again with new vocal tracks and improved mastering. Get that bass to shine through a bit more! it’s deadly playing and writing!

Gotta disagree with the vocal criticism here. I think the vocals are tastefully done and balance aggression and clean very well. I'm also not a fan of bands that have only aggressive and growly vocals 24x7, so, take that into account. I just get tired of hearing that all the time in modern metal.

Really like the composition and the mix is stellar. I'll have to come at this with less fatigued ears in the morning too, but that was a good listen through tonight!

Overall love the mix. Thanks for linking @BRBass! Going to play it through Spotify and share it around with like-minded music folks!
