Hello,

I'm planning on ordering a Dingwall ABZ in the next few days and I am having some last minute decisions regarding the available options:

1) If I were to get an exotic top, would it look fine with a satin finish as opposed to the gloss used on an ABI or ABII?

2) Also, I'm going with the 5-string so I'm wondering how well the Hipshot cooperates with the B-string.

I'd be fine with just a standard model but also think it might be worth it to make the bass a little more "unique."

Hi Derek,

I didn't even know you could customize an ABZ, but I would say that ANY finish Sheldon does is top notch. His satin finishes are really nice, and his gloss ones are beautiful as well. My ABII has a figured bubinga top and a satin finish, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

As for the drop B string tuner, I've never had one. But Sheldon never does anything that isn't well engineered and tested first. So I would certainly not worry about the functionality aspect. Also, many have them and I've never heard anyone complain that they are somehow not all that.

Finally, be sure to head over to the Dingwall site (you probably already have) and ask Barry about these things. IN case you are not aware, there is an "Ask Barry" forum and his contact info is posted in there as well), He is extremely helpful and a really nice guy to boot.

Well I did a search on TB and 6 stringers don't show up very often and the one that sold a couple years ago removed the selling price after it was sold (never did understand why some sellers choose to do that).

I'm not a Dingwall owner and I never post on club threads unless I have experience with a piece of gear but...
the tone coming out of this instrument is YUGE in an articulate, not bloated way. The slapped low B in this video caught my attention and I am not one to slap very often.



This is a very even, balanced sounding instrument, which can largely be attributed to the string lengths- Also, this voodoo switchblade system is intriguing. Thoughts on this? crap, this may be GAS.

If they could do one tone knob per switch, I think it would be the ultimate passive setup.

Sheldon did mention that the Voodoo Switchblade could be an option on the ABXXX, which would be just about the only thing that I'd want to replace my ABZ with.

Thought a few of you would enjoy the pics.

No, not mine (I wish). Recently shipped to Tokyo. Add the blade setup to this and I better start saving some money up.
