To my eyes, id say yes that is the clear. If i had to guess, the clear came off and someone used a different shrink tube to cover the bare wire. In your pic, the "original" looks like its a middle pup wired in parallel, your "new" one is wired in series for the neck i think.

Been diggin on @ConnerGreenBass tone on the new Haken album Fauna. Not sure what model he’s playin but it fits in all the right spots.
Could someone with a Canadian Dingwall with the staplock on the back (e.g. Z3) please post a photo of the back of your bass? Ideally, lying flat. I'm having my luthier put a Dunlop flush mount straplock on the back of my new NG3 so I need a photo for reference as to where to drill it. Thank you in advance!

I don’t know if this is of much help, but here’s a video of a Dunlop rear mount strap pin on a NG2. I can post a pic of the back of my AB1, but it’s passive and lacks the circle battery cover that provides a much-needed landmark for where a retrofit rear pin might go.

I'm late to the party with this one, (forgive me I had not been on TB for years) I've owned it from new for a year already, this one was a special order, meaning the body and neck wood, choice of fretboard wood and finally one feature that makes it unique is that is the only one made so far with just 2 pickups instead of the standard 3. I had to literally argue with the factory, because I was told the cnc process cuts 3 pickup slots and so no pal, we can't make you one with 2 pickups, I insisted that the cnc process is after all operated by software and such can and should be altered. Well after a few more emails back and forth, they agreed. I am not a fan of those 3 pickups so close to each other and I reallly (to be very honest) don't care for the variety of sounds they give you, I am old skool and I couldn't give a flip-flop

Ok so like, I want to add a D-tuner to my ABZ.
I can get the standard Grover-style Hipshot tuner, but would that work? Also the tuning pegs on the ABZ are sort of different - they're kind of 'square'ish around the edges if that makes sense. I mean it's a tiny difference but I want to be as consistent as possible innit.
Do y'all know if you can get your hands on a D-tuner with those specific tuner pegs?

Amen. They are what 'made' me put AlNico V pickups in my split-P equipped basses. While conversing with tech@dingwall (Jeff) a few years ago, I asked if they would offer FDV split-P pickups. He said yes, but since they have not appeared, I'd say the plan is on the back burner. This may have been about the time of developing the Combutsion line - a much higher priority. I totally dig the (AlNico V) NP-4a's the Nordstrand made for me. I'd still like to see and hear a FDV split-P.

Dingwalls were not at stratospheric price points back then. I think I paid $1600-ish for my quilt-top AB-1 in 2008. Of course, a different time in a different economy.
NG3 purchased today. Hopefully here on Friday
I often forget that 15 years ago is only 2008 .. time flies so quickly, it's frightening.
